Hernaam Kaur (2003) will be making a reappearance on our screens very soon. Khoosat Films is planning on airing the telefilm on their YouTube channel on August 26 at 8pm as a tribute to the brilliant writer Manto whose short story it is based on.

On Wednesday, filmmaker Sarmad Khoosat took to Instagram to share the promo for the telefilm. “Full of 101 technical and aesthetic blunders, and glitches but 101% love and honesty. A lot of friends and fans have asked to make it available online. Am a tad bit nervous about it too, but whatever,” he wrote. “In our stream of nostalgic throwbacks, we will be re-releasing *Hernaam Kaur.”*

The Zindagi Tamasha director’s gripping telefilm pays homage to Manto’s “piercing narrative on the pain of partition and the enigma of gender and identity, inquiring into timeless themes of the human condition”. He told fans to stay tuned for more updates from the archives.

Written and directed by Khoosat, Hernaam Kaur has been produced by Erfan Khoosat. It stars Sohail Ahmed, Sarmad, Saba Hameed, Erfan and Fareeha Jabeen among others.

This is not the first time Sarmad has been associated with the legendary writer — in 2015, the filmmaker both directed and starred in Manto. The biopic did not try to paint the writer as a saint but portrayed him as is, which resulted in very polarised responses. The Kamli director displayed the chronology of Manto’s latter life with a montage of his stories.

Please remember, it was not partition but independence, liberty and freedom which happened on August 14, 1947.

To much focus on issues that require a no heed, pleasing the masters to win award perhaps may reap reward...
