In a collaboration we didn’t see coming, Sarah Khan and Merub Ali play sisters in their upcoming drama Wabaal. It is seemingly the story of a girl who is “tired of conditions of poverty” and lives an imaginary life of riches.
On Wednesday, Hum TV dropped the first teaser for the drama with the definition of the name in the caption, “Wabaal — the literal translation of which is curse, despair and destruction.“ It also mentioned that the show is coming soon.
According to the 35-second clip, the story revolves around Khan who’s seen hanging out with a girl gang at parties and what looks like an educational institute, spinning grandiose tales about her significant other. She tells the girls she’s being showered with riches and the gifts include gold sets, a diamond ring, a mansion and an upcoming world tour. When they find out she’s been lying, they confront her and Khan lashes out. She fights with her family as well who are concerned about where she’s getting money from. In the midst of it all, she’s seen on a bike with a guy (Talha Chahour) who might be the one giving her the cash.
After viewing the teaser, it has become clear that Khan has been posting from set here and there, and it also makes us wonder whether she made the drastic change in her hairstyle for this role.
The on screen sister duo also shared a photo together, revealing their characters’ names — Anum and Maham.
Written by Qaisera Hayat and directed by Amin Iqbal, Wabaal has been produced by Momina Duraid. The cast includes Khan, Shagufta Ejaz, Ali, Chahour and others.
