Sakina Samo’s film Intezaar finally getting released on Aug 19, actor promises it’s ‘different’
Pakistani films are on a roll this year and there are even more we can expect to see on the big screen. Due to Covid-19, a lot of scheduled films came to a halt, including Sakina Samo’s directorial debut Intezaar (Waiting) starring Samina Ahmed, Khalid Ahmed, Kaif Ghaznavi, Raza Ali Abid and Adnan Jaffar. But there’s some good news for fans — the film is finally ready to be released.
Talking to Images, the veteran actor confirmed that her movie is finally coming to theatres on August 19. “Yes, it’s true that the film is being released finally. It was delayed because of Covid-19 and IMGC is releasing it as they had it initially. It was scheduled to release on March 21 but then Covid happened and it came to a halt, not just Intezaar (Waiting) but the entire world came to a halt,” she said.
She added, “Let’s see how it goes because the film is nice, of course I’d say that because it’s my baby, but I’d like to add that the film is different and all type of films should be put up because we have audience of all types.” She hopes that the film is well-received when it releases and that people like it.
The film premiered at the Harlem Film Festival, New York in 2020 and Khalid bagged the Best Actor award for his performance, which the Dobara actor said was because of his “powerful performance” in the upcoming release.
The director added that all the premieres at that time were virtual and nothing happened in “real time” for Intezaar (Waiting) up until now.
Written by Bee Gul, who is known for her work in Raqeeb Se and Dar Si Jati Hai Sila, the story revolves around a family’s patience. A father waiting for his family to leave him, a mother waiting for her son to come home and a daughter taking care of her ageing parents, waiting for them to pass on; loneliness, indifference of children and the fear of death, ever approaching.
