Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin could face 50 years in prison on ‘incest’ charges
Puerto Rican singer Enrique Martín Morales, professionally known as Ricky Martin, is currently facing domestic violence charges reportedly filed by his 21-year-old nephew.
Two weeks ago, a judge issued a “domestic violence-related” restraining order against the Latin pop icon. Ricky denied the allegations, calling them “false”.
The alleged victim’s identity was not disclosed at the time but according to Spanish publication Marca, Ricky’s brother, Eric Martin, claimed that the victim is Dennis Yadiel Sanchez — the singer’s nephew. He also claimed they had a romantic relationship.
The ‘Shake Your Bon-Bon’ singer could be facing five decades of prison time under Puerto Rico’s laws for “incest charges” if the allegations are proved to be correct. According to the publication, the complaint was made anonymously under Law 54, known as the Domestic Abuse Prevention and Intervention Act.
According to Puerto Rico newspaper El Vocero, the order states Ricky and the alleged victim were in a relationship for seven months. The latter claimed that the singer was not okay with their breakup and has loitered near the petitioner’s home at least three times. The alleged victim claimed they feared for their safety and the order reportedly barred Ricky from reaching out to the person who filed the complaint.
The New York Post reached out to the ‘Maria’ singer’s attorney for a comment on Friday. He said, “Unfortunately, the person who made this claim is struggling with deep mental health challenges. Ricky Martin has, of course, never been — and would never be — involved in any kind of sexual or romantic relationship with his nephew.”
Ricky took to Twitter and denied all allegations on July 4, writing, “The protection order entered against me is based on completely false allegations so I will respond through the judicial process with the facts and the dignity that characterize me.”
“Because it is an ongoing legal matter, I cannot make detailed statements at this time. I am grateful for the countless messages of solidarity and I receive them with all my heart,” he said.
