Teeli's Just Married wins Best Web-Series of the Year at Pakistan Digital Awards
Teeli's original web series Just Married won Best Web-series of the Year at the Pakistan Digital Awards on Saturday. The web series was produced by Teeli and sponsored by Tapal.
Teeli, a digital content creation platform and a part of Dawn Media Group, has been actively entertaining its audience with quality content since June 2017.
Gulzaib Shakeel, writer of the series stated, “2021 was an amazing year book-ended by seasons 1 and 2 of Teeli’s original web series, Just Married. The very first meeting of the project was online, mid-lockdown, during a downpour! And here we are now with the award for the Best Web Series at the Pakistani Digital Awards 2022 in our hands. The Teeli team is working on a number of other projects, including web series."
The six-episode show follows a young couple who just moved into an apartment in Karachi to start a new life together. It focused on the often mundane problems couples go through — fighting over losing your keys, not being Instagram perfect, nosy neighbours and prioritising promotions over babies. It first aired on YouTube in January 2021.
Shakeel had previously told Images that it was important to have stories to break the depressing and damaging clutter of problematic dramas on TV. “Writing Just Married was an opportunity to show a lighthearted romance between a married couple, something almost never witnessed on traditional TV," she explained.
"Writing relatable and cute moments was quite a fun experience because a lot of it is sourced from real life people," said Shakeel, who is also the general manager of Teeli. "The most insane conversations took place when I asked married people what's the weirdest, funniest or most awkward question they have been asked. All of that culminated in the characters of the annoying neighbours the protagonists have!"
