Bollywood actor and ace filmmaker Farhan Akhtar tied the knot with singer Shibani Dandekar on February 19 — and the couple gave us curious onlookers some major wedding outfit inspo through their understated daytime wedding looks, a style choice in sharp contrast to the opulent, heavy and over-the-top Sabyasachi looks Bollywood it-couples have opted for over the years (yes we're talking about you Katrina Kaif and Vicky Kaushal).

Akhtar tied the knot with Dandekar at his father Javed Akhtar's farmhouse in Mahrashtra. Photos that surfaced on social media showed their wedding to be a fun and contemporary affair, complete with wedding vows and a dance floor. The wedding was attended by celebrities such as Hrithik Roshan, Rhea Chakraborty, Ashutosh Gowariker, Satish Shah, Saqib Saleem and Amrita Arora.

The Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara actor looked dapper in a black tuxedo, paired with a white lapel flower and classic black sunglasses. The groom credited Indian designer Govinda Mehta for the tuxedo on Instagram. We loved the all black look that suited Farhan and beautifully complemented his partner's contemporary dress on their special day.

The bride wore a lace wedding dress in sultry shades of red and cream. The outfit had a matching red veil as well as matching sling-back heels from Aquazzura. Dandekar revealed her outfit was by the Indian brand JADE by Monica and Karishma, designed by stylist Shaleena Nathani and designer Monica Shah who is cofounder of the brand. Her wedding look was styled by Nathani. Dandekar's wedding earrings were credited to GOENKA INDIA and Amigos Communications. Her makeup was done by makeup artist Cassandra Kehren and hair by celebrity hairstylist Reena Dutta.

Dandekar's gown and veil was definitely a nod towards traditional western gowns, however, the traditional red, floral patterns and abundant use of lace made it feel desi at its core as well. The outfit revealed a contemporary perspective on the traditional red wedding dress that's celebrated across the subcontinent.

We're glad the bride and groom opted for something understated as their wedding looks. It's time to bid adieu to heavily embellished and over-the-top Sabyasachi inspired looks and opt for something that's refreshingly different, minimal and yet vibrantly desi, much like Farhan and Dandekar did.
