Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas welcome their first child

Chopra announced a surrogate gave birth to the couple’s baby on January 15.
Updated 22 Jan, 2022

Baby Jonas is here.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas and her husband Nick Jonas announced on their Instagram pages Friday that they welcomed their first child together. She said a surrogate gave birth to the couple’s baby on January 15.

“We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate,” the couple’s statement said.

The couple did not reveal their baby’s name or sex and asked for privacy “during this special time as we focus on our family.”

The couple had been dropping hints about their future plans all along — Chopra had told The Sunday Times in Jan 2021 that she wanted a large family. Jonas gushed about his wife and their future as parents, telling Extra in Feb 2021, “We’d be blessed with any child, son or daughter or anything. Just knocking [on] wood that it happens.”

Us Weekly confirmed that their first child is a girl.

Celebrities from both Bollywood and Hollywood congratulated the new parents. Katrina Kaif, Lily James, Kal Penn and Mindy Kaling sent their love in the comment section of the post.

"Kalpen Uncle" also offered his babysitting services to Chopra and jonas.

In 2018, the couple married in India after dating for four months.

When the natural way is not possible due to health reasons, its OK to go this way otherwise it is like buying a dog. Bearing a child has a lot of physical and mental connection to the mother and the child.

@A Why bring religion into the picture? I know many Muslim women who have resorted to surrogacy and find no shame in that because it is the natural desire and longing of women to have a baby. As for Priyanka, many Pakistani women admire her for being bold enough and coming out in the open about her surrogacy. Indeed, in Priyanka's case, one can aver that she is woman enough to admit the surrogacy pregnancy. I also think you should believe in live and let live - the world cannot live in your prism of your narrow-mindedness.

A surrogate gave birth to their child? Nice, the kid will definitely get his Mata’s love, was it because she’s too old to take a chance and have a kid, she can’t have kids, or was it her career and body ?

Your average is 25000 surrogate children in over a billion population and still you know many Muslim women. Do not spread false information.

@Ali doesn't matter if they are Muslim or not, surrogacy raises questions about ethics. A womb was not meant as a rented space. Its a spiritual home where mother and child begin bonding process.
Recommend (0)
FAZ Jan 23, 2022 03:06pm
Surrogacy should be illegal. Becoming a mother is a deep bond formation between a mother and a child. How can you deprive a mother from her child just because it is technically not her own? She bore it for 9 months and you take advantage of her financial situation? Better to provide her resources to make her living rather than use her as a surrogate.
