Twitter users have mixed reactions to artist lineup for Coke Studio season 14

Netizens had a lot to say about the reported lineup and most of it wasn't complimentary.
Updated 13 Dec, 2021

Coke Studio season 14's artist lineup just dropped and while some are excited about the return, others are not happy about it. The new list features a mix of old gems and new talent. But not everyone is on board with some of the artists included in the list. From criticising the order to objecting to certain people being on there at all, netizens are not holding back.

The lineup was first revealed on December 9 by The Express Tribune and its versatility is clear as day. However, Coke Studio says that isn't the final lineup and the poster drawing a lot of criticism online wasn't made by them.

As we know, ace singer-songwriter, guitarist and music producer Zulfiqar Jabbar Khan, popularly known as Xulfi, has taken over the reins for the show's 14th season. It seems like Xulfi is trying to find a balance and merge different musical eras to create a more holistic season.

The season has 12 episodes and these are the chosen artists.

Hasan Raheem

Abida Parveen

QB

Naseebo Lal

Atif Aslam

Momina Mustehsan

Meesha Shafi

Faris Shafi

Soch The Band

Butt Brothers

Karakoram

Talha Yunus

Faisal Kapadia

Justin Bibis

Following the reveal, a Twitter user posted a screenshot of the lineup and claimed Coke Studio was turning into "Joke Studio". He, among others, was very pressed about emerging singer Hasan Raheem's name preceding established singers like Abida Parveen, QB and Atif Aslam on the list.

The debate was definitely not one-sided though — there was a rebuttal mentioning that the artist placement in the line-up may not be Coke Studio's fault but rather the publication's that made the poster.

And then there were others who took a swing at Raheem's inclusion.

One user steered away from the subject entirely, saying there are more important things that require our attention.

Some users complained about the artists that should have been on the list.

And some thought they brought on the wrong Talha from Young Stunners.

This user thought it seemed like Coke Studio was hosting a university concert this time around.

This lineup is really bringing out the haters' creativity.

A Coke Studio for politicians who can sing? Definitely something we'd tune in for.

Presenting you with flip side of the coin — there were some positive responses as well.

Some people were just happy about the comeback.

Others believe the young artists will actually "revive" the platform.

It’s exciting to see Coke Studio mix it up and give young talented singers a great platform to expand their fan base and grow as musicians by being around such legendary artists.

Why can’t Amanat Ali be a part of coke studio. He is much better than all the new singers.

Selection of the different artists is the job of the coke studio management and criticizing the artists without giving them a chance to perform is not appropriate.

Coke studio has taken a wrong turn towards popular music instead of quality music. Not even a single classical singer is included into the line up. Don't forget that the signature style of Classical sufi music, folk songs and fusion of classical and modern music has been the cause of coke studios popularity among common music listeners and critics. I don't know what is so special in Momina Mustehsan's singing that she has been given consecutive appearances in coke studios.
