The first teaser for Ms Marvel, the first series featuring a Pakistani-American superhero, is out and fans finally get to see actor Iman Vellani take on the titular role of Ms Marvel.

Vellani plays 16-year-old Kamala Khan, who lives in Jersey City. Marvel describes Kamala as "an aspiring artist, an avid gamer, and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, she is a huge fan of the Avengers — and one in particular, Captain Marvel. But Kamala has always struggled to find her place in the world — that is until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to."

The teaser was screened during a Disney+ Day 2021 day event and was exclusively available on the platform. It was also confirmed that the series will be released in the company's fourth quarter of 2022, meaning summer 2022.

One thing people noticed was that Kamala's powers seem different from the inhuman flexibility she has in the comics.

Ms Marvel is also Marvel's first female Muslim superhero. The series' episodes are directed by executive producers Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

During its Disney+ Day event, Marvel also released teasers for Moon Knight starring Oscar Isaac as well as She-Hulk starring Tatiana Maslany.

I hope this doesn't fall under the forced-diverse-but-badly-written category.

Representation doesn’t always matter- as in this case. We just tend to follow what glitters and blindly do.
