Celebrities mourn the loss of life after explosions at Kabul airport
Kabul witnessed two powerful explosions at its airport on Thursday, killing up to 20 people and wounding several more as people anxiously gathered at the airport in hopes of boarding an evacuation flight out of Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. In light of the devastating attack, some Pakistani celebrities took to social media to mourn the loss of innocent lives due to the attack.
Actors such as Ahsan Khan, Omair Rana and Shahzad Sheikh posted about the Kabul airport attack on social media.
"Various Kabul hospitals data show 43 killed and 130 injured in today’s Kabul Airport attack," Khan shared on Twitter. "Over 50 are critical. Very sad indeed! The death toll may rise."
Sheikh also took to Instagram Stories to share the news of the attack and grieve at the devastation. "My heart goes out to Afghanistan," he wrote.
Rana also took to Instagram Stories to reflect on the suffering and struggles of those waiting at the airport to flee the threat of persecution in Afghanistan. "As I comfortably stroll to board my plane my thoughts suddenly flung to Kabul. All those people, especially the ones with children, putting their lives on the line to do something we are doing so casually — take a flight."
Rana also asked his followers to say a prayer for the wellbeing of those waiting at the Kabul airport.
Many celebrities and public figures have previously taken to social media to call for the safety of the people of Afghanistan and show concern over the situation currently unfolding in the country after the Taliban gained control of Kabul and effectively took over Afghanistan.
