Twitter calls for #JusticeForNoor and wonders when Pakistani women will be safe

This is the third brutal attack on a woman in Pakistan in the past couple of days.
21 Jul, 2021

It seems like every day there is a new hashtag informing us of another brutal act of violence against a Pakistani woman. Women get no respite from this never-ending cycle of violence and every day there is another example of how women are not safe.

On Tuesday, 27-year-old Noor Muqaddam, the daughter of the former ambassador to South Korea, was killed in Islamabad. According to the police, she was slaughtered after being shot at.

Twitter is currently filled with posts from people shocked at the murder and calling for justice for Noor.

It should be declared a national emergency, said one user. Perhaps someone will actually do something about it then.

Actor Osman Khalid Butt vowed that he wouldn't stop screaming until justice was served.

Singer Meesha Shafi sarcastically congratulated those who opposed the violence against women bill.

Other people noted that there had been three hashtags calling for justice for women victims of violence back to back. The first was for Quratulain and the second for Saima.

One user reminded us that, yes, all men.

Why do women need more rights, people ask. This is why.

This violence is a terrifying prospect women live in fear of every day.

This user reflected on the inherently unsafe world women live in.

Others were just in shock and disbelief.

Safety is a privilege and it can be snatched away at any time, reminded this user.

Don't confuse the issue, this was a murder, one user asserted.

Another questioned what the state of other cities is if Islamabad is this unsafe.

These users had reminders for everyone about how often this happens and how unsafe they feel.

There is very little left to say because every other day a brutal incident of violence against a woman is reported and no one is doing anything to stop it. We need action and we need it now because women are not safe. If their killers, harassers and abusers are not behind bars, women will never be safe and we need the government and our law enforcers to step up. Help protect your citizens and make this country safer for everyone.

Mukadam is a common Indian last name. Found across Hindu, Muslim and Buddhist communities. Mukadam is actually a position. Usually at a construction site some call it Mistri. Mukadam can also mean an in-charge.

Pure evil. Is there no end to this crazy hate of women. Why are the politicians and religious leaders silent! Why are police failing victims. Where's justice? Who is responsible?

Justice, equals judges, courts, and lawyers, and police! The pmln, and PPP do not wants judicial and police reforms, because this will affects their cases, so Pakistani needs to demands justice, by demanding reforms in accountability for all, judges, lawyers and police! Only then the citizens will get justice!

No doubt it's really very shocking. Have you commenter ever thought what is going on other countries specially in Europe, America where such crimes are common but no social media makes such shouting and publicity as being done in Pakistan. It's a crime and must be deplored. No one is going to support it, but don't try to show the world that Pakistan is no place for women.

@Bryan Joseph Mukadam is an Arabic title, adopted in other Islamic cultures, for any of various civil or religious officials. The literal meaning is something like "expediter", "facilitator", or "assistant". Nothing to with Hindu or Bhuddist.

Our Mass media and social structure including the domestic are all responsible for demonizing women and this is part of the reasons perceptions are created in the minds of men few of whom then go onto rape

First we have to know the reason for such a brutal murder, as Noor was at the murderers house, who was also a drugee. It does not absolve anyone of the murder but full story must be known.

Not only in Pakistan, why some people just wired Pakistan... India is worst in such crimes. Even Europe or America are not violence free. Crime is crime wherever committed. But don't blame the whole Nation, few evils exist in society, need to end evil & Justice is need of hour. Gender base violence not acceptable in any society. Respect for basic rights must prevail for protection of individual. Let us hope justice will prevail, the killer will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Don't exaggerate too much, it is very unfavourable and we condemn from heart and mind such vicious acts , but according to calculations men are more expose than women. Men were more killed in recent past than women..

@Ali Mehdi This is no random act of violence. She was with friends. With leaders blaming the victims the murderers have immunity in Pakistan.

This should be a test case - the killer is from an influential family. Justice should be seen to be done, which is not the case yet. And we should do every thing to ensure it is done .

Pakistani women will never be safe as long as they don’t stop hanging around with mentally ill, abusive people just for the sake of money and luxury.

Why so much hate? Once again, the girl must have refused the advances of a rich spoiled brat whose ego was probably touching the sky. Or case of drug fueled parties

Nothing is clear about the crime committed is actually a gender related. A female is a victim so treat crime as crime only details can shed the cause so pre-judgment is not sane way of analysis.

How is this related to misogyny? Aren't men murdered here as well? Does that make it misandry? A murder is a murder, doesn't have to be about gender.

Thats why the protection of women given by Islam is already desinated less we follow it but we scream as it is against our wills. When speedy justice , death to adultry and death to death is given then why we again make voices of human rights. Noor killer must get death however if he gets then again human rights will say why...
