Shaniera Akram gives Minal Khan a lesson on road safety we should all remember this monsoon season

Khan and her fiancé, Ahsan Mohsin Ikram, were driving in the Karachi rain a little too carelessly for Akram's liking.
13 Jul, 2021

Shaniera Akram recently took to social media to remind actors Minal Khan and Ahsan Mohsin Ikram of something we all need to remember this rainfall season — enjoying the weather while driving does not excuse us from following road safety rules.

Ikram recently shared an Instagram story of Khan enjoying the rain and singing in the passenger seat of a moving car. It seems that Ikram was recording Khan and driving the car at the same time. Khan wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

The Instagram story was widely circulated on social media until it reached Akram's feed as well.

"Come on guys, you're famous, and have millions of followers, is it too hard to be a little bit more responsible?" Akram commented while sharing the story. "Put your seatbelt on and eyes on the road! I'm sorry to say but that wont be as cute if she's singing it in the hospital."

Akram has often used her platform to raise awareness about various civic issues. In 2020, both she and her husband Wasim Akram highlighted the alarming amounts of trash and sewage found on a beach in Karachi.

Khan and her fiancé have more than seven million followers on Instagram together. We can understand Akram's concern about setting better examples when one has such a massive following on social media. With a big fandom comes big responsibility after all.

Celebrities or otherwise, let's all make it a point to follow road safety rules while driving. It's dangerous to not follow these rules at any time but even more so when the roads are wet and slippery after a spell of rain.

Well we see it all the time on Pakistani dramas. No seat belts and driving while messaging or ion the phone, these scenes are common on tv drama serials, responsibility to promote health and safety amongst other public safety messages are heavily on media outlets.

@ST Celebrities are unfortunately taken as role models now a days by our younger generation. So anything that celebrities are doing is blindly followed by millions of young girls and guys. So I totally agree with Shaniera. It is not about poking in someone else business but the actress is on the road and she has to follow the public protocol. If she will follow it then millions of others will follow suit. This is how public awareness is created around the world.

Shaniera is trying to implement Australian driving standard in Pakistan. While the standards are good, but the problem is that if somebody comes from Australia and follows the Australian standard, then one will not be able to move the car specially in Karachi. I remember telling the rickshaw driver that he is breaking the one way law. The immediate response was, it appears that you have come from overseas.

Wow, everyone calling out the Akrams for their 'meddling' when it's the TV star setting a horrible example, and then people are like "Ma'am, let them enjoy"... The energy posting a comment here would have been better utilised telling the starlets not to put up, for the sake of social media appearances and bollywood like scenarios of their life, examples of utter ignorance. Why? Bhai Instagram followers 1M+ jo hai, tau tub tau sub kuch karna allowed hai... Such mindless sheep following these celebrities in Pakistan.

Mrs Akram is 110% right. If some one is famous doesn't mean that they have the certificate to break rules. She has so weird photos with her fiancee which is totally against the moral values. She belongs to a good family so behave like a descent girl, so that a number of teenagers and adults will learn good things from our heroes. Engagement is not an authentic relationship, Please don't give wrong message. Thank you

Shaniera is absolutely right !!! Generally noticed, Pakistanis do not like to follow the rules, regulations and safety protocells. And, if and when they're reminded of the rules they're suppose to follow for their own and others safety they get offended and lash out absurdities - this is a sign of immature and abnormal society.

Shaniera Akram talk is cheap. Get a campaign to get the paint companies in Karachi to offer free paint to building that have not been painted in the last 20 years. There are some beautiful old building that need a face lift of color. There should be a moratorium that all building needs a fresh coat of paint. Many dilapidated buildings look like the slums of Africa and there is no desire to bring the older historical building to their original glory. If they can refurbish Empress Market the with a little push they can work on the grand old skeletons of building around Karachi.

Agree with Shaniera here. With a huge following, these 'celebrities' impact the behavior of large segments of population. We all know that such celebrities are not the bastions of morality, but there should be a bare minimum for socially responsible behavior that they must adhere to.
