Four Pakistani podcasts you should start listening to over the weekend
Podcasts have become quite the ‘in’ thing in Pakistan. We definitely get it, what’s not to love? You can listen to episodes while you do other things at work or at home. The local content out there is also pretty good; there are some very fun, funny and inspiring conversations happening on culture, lifestyle and music, conversations that almost all of us can relate to well.
A big problem with podcasts is that there are so many available that people get overwhelmed and don't know what to start with. People often don't know how to listen to them. Here are our top four picks for great Pakistani podcasts that you should try out over the weekend.
Happy Chirp
Social media influencer and blogger Humna Raza is creating feel-good content that is purely for the listening pleasure of women with her podcast Happy Chirp.
The hashtag #WhereWomenDoTheTalking is a prominent part of the podcast. It features inspirational Pakistani women from all walks of life, sitting down with Raza and sharing their personal stories of struggle, resilience and transformation. There are some very interesting conversations with women entrepreneurs, academics, bloggers and single moms, conversations that are definitely worth a listen to if you’re looking for a little pick-me-up.
The Pakistan Experience
If you’re an Anwar that gets offended easily, we suggest you skip this one. However if you’re looking for exciting banter that is as insightful as it is humorous, and well, slightly explicit, then we definitely recommend stand-up comedian and content creator Shehzad Ghias Shaikh’s podcast The Pakistan Experience.
In the podcast Shaikh tactfully steers conversations on topics such as love, sexual intimacy, consent and monogamy. His roundtable discussions have featured guests such as comedian Tabish Hashmi, actor Fawad Khan and director/producer extraordinaire Sarmad Khoosat.
If you're looking for something interesting and funny to listen to, Shaikh already has extensive list of episodes.
Mooroo Podcast
Content creator and musician Taimoor Moeen Salahuddin aka Mooroo needs no introduction to audiences already well acquainted with Pakistan’s blogger scene. His content on Facebook and Instagram is witty, thoughtful and very well put together, and he’s bringing all that magic into his podcast Mooroo Podcast as well.
The podcast is simple business, Mooroo ‘talks to people, sometimes in English, sometimes in Urdu.’ Episodes have featured much-loved bloggers such as Momina Munir, Amtul and Fahad from Patangeer and the adventurous Ramish and Dasnish of Bros Meet the World.
He’s also invited over big names such as Mira Sethi, and Mehar Bano from Churails for very fun conversations. This podcast is definitely worth a listen to.
The Mosiki Podcast
The Mosiki Podcast is one specially catering to Pakistani music junkies. It helps you get acquainted with music made by incredibly talented musicians, singers and songwriters that you may or may not be already familiar with (with the higher chance that you aren’t).
Episodes feature interviews with popular as well as upcoming artists but it's not all about music. To limit the podcast to only music would be a massive injustice as Mosiki invites guests over for a variety of interesting conversations on culture, lifestyle and all the quirky things that happen in the music industry. The podcast also just happens to be affiliated with a really awesome zine, so there is definitely a little something for all you listening, reading and writing creatives.
All of these podcasts are available on YouTube for free. Give them a listen to and let us know what you think.
