Demi Lovato says she was raped at the age of 15

In a new docu-series on her life, the singer breaks her silence over the sexual assault she faced while working for Disney.

Singer-songwriter Demi Lovato says she was raped at the age of 15 by someone she knew, while still working for the Disney Channel.

Lovato spoke about the assault and made other revelations in docu-series Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil, which premiered virtually at the SXSW Festival.

In the series, she said she told someone about the assault, but the rapist “never got taken out of the movie they were in” and she had to “see them all the time” even after the attack. This raises some serious questions for Disney Channel to answer, but the company has yet to release any statements on the docu-series.

She felt it was best to not name her assaulter, and did not disclose their identity.

"When I was a teenager, I was in a very similar situation. I lost my virginity in a rape," she said in the docu-series.

She acknowledged that she and her alleged attacker had been “hooking up” at the time, but says she had also made it clear that she was not ready.

She elaborated, "I was part of that Disney crowd that publicly said they were waiting until marriage. I didn't have the romantic first time. That was not it for me — that sucked. Then I had to see this person all the time so I stopped eating and coped in other ways."

Lovato was subjected to another sexual assault on the morning of her near-fatal drug overdose in 2018. She was found “blue and naked” after she was “taken advantage of and left for dead”, in her own words.

In a new tell-all YouTube Original four-part docu-series on the troubled life of the now 28-year-old child star, she leaves no rock unturned. From her troubles with childhood fame, poor management and undue stress, to her destructive relationship with drugs amounting to three strokes, a heart attack and significant brain damage and the six years of sobriety that followed — she wants to talk about it all.

The first two episodes of the series will premiere on YouTube on March 23.

At this stage of life there was no need to beat the drums.

A 28 years young artist having destructive relationship with drugs amounting to three strokes, a heart attack, significant brain damage and subsequent hardships, is the uncanny story of the glittering life they show to the world but endure all the negativity on self. Very contrasting and deceiving.

Is this story concerned to us. After all in most of the western world the sexual consent age islow and loosing virginity in very young age is very high. They have sowed a culture and so they reap the harvest. Uncountable cases of rape happens everyday in the western world, very few come out to announce them ,

Seems like every other female celebrity "around the world" was either raped, molested or sexually exploited.

Good Demi is opening up and release the pressure on herself. She will be relieved and Disney will respond. As for drugs, she has suffered enough.

Sorry for her state, but there are always reasons for things to happen. If you are concerned about rape then what stops you from taking names and having them behind bars.

@Changez Khan Very sad mate! I am actually proud of her to step forward, regardless of the stage of life. It is a very difficult thing to share. more than 90% of victims won't ever report the assault. We should encourage the victims to talk about it and we as a community should support and protect the victims as much as we can.

@Browngirl It's the reality of not just celebs but also common people. Look inwards in Pakistan, most of such incidents go unreported

@Viq saad Maybe if she named her attacker we would get to hear another version of the unfortunate incident. Her account would have to stand up to closer scrutiny, which might not suit her.

I was working in US and an African-American colleague of mine confessed to me he was only 9 years old when he had sex with a 12 year old girl and she was the one who initiated it. But he said he enjoyed it and didn't feel he was raped.
