Indian actor-producer Aamir Khan celebrated his 56th birthday on Sunday and had a terrible birthday gift for his fans — he's quitting social media.

He announced his intention to stop using all forms of social media in what he termed his 'last post'. The post went up on all of his social media platforms shortly before they were deactivated.

Khan has never really been active on social media and now is "dropping the pretence" entirely. He thanked his fans for their love and support, but doesn't love us enough to maintain a social media account.

The posts were uploaded on March 15, and read, "Hey guys, thank you so much for all the love and warmth on my birthday My heart is full. In other news, this is going to be my last post on social media. Considering that I am SO active anyway I have decided to drop the pretence. We will continue to communicate as we did before."

In the note, Khan also announced that his production house has set up its own social media pages with verified pages on all major platforms. He clarified that all communications regarding him and his films will now be done on Aamir Khan Productions pages.

His Mumbai-based production company Aamir Khan Productions was set up in 1999. Under it, Bollywood has seen some terrific films ranging from the Oscar nominated Lagaan (2001) to hits like Taare Zameen Par (2007) and Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na (2008).

Khan’s next film, a Bollywood remake of Robert Zemeckis’ Hollywood hit Forrest Gump starring Tom Hanks, is currently under production. The film, also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and is expected to be released by Christmas.

Proof of Pakistani addiction of Bollywood. For an entertainment starved country, this is an earth shattering news indeed.

I wish Bollywood would make way for new boys. One sees all the time 90s heroes who have now wrinkles paired up with young heroines.

If mediocrity is the aim, Social media is pretty lame, More should do the same, For want of a famous name. Well done Aamir Khan!

He must have some fake IDs to check whether his fans are concerned about him or not. However, I am also a great big fan of the legend. Who did say Amir khan?

Amir has no time for social media as he is busy making blockbusters we should ask him to move to Pakistan to revive our film industry.
