Bilal Maqsood feels religious content shouldn't be monetised on YouTube

Ever tried peacefully zoning out to your favourite YouTube content only to be bothered by a random advertisement?

Bilal Maqsood recently took to Instagram to voice his concern regarding religious content on YouTube, and the ways in which it is interrupted by profit-making organisations for marketing purposes which he finds distasteful.

"Surahs and duas on YouTube should not be monetised," said the Strings musician. "Imagine listening to Surah-e-Rehman and it is interrupted in the middle by a lawn or a cooking oil ad, it's highly disrespectful."

While most fans were quick to agree saying they faced the same turmoil, some criticised the Mera Bichra Yar singer, saying the adverts help give monetary return to those who have made the effort of sharing some good with the world.

Why don't you buy premium membership for youtube? No adds will appear in any video so there will be no disrespect. We want everything for free with our conditions.

Quiet sensible suggestion coming from some one who was sensitive enough to understand.

Religious content shouldn't be monetised anywhere... But look at the advertisement lineups on mainstream media during Ramadan... YouTube is far bigger and better since it has a global reach and ad times are short with skip options, something we can't avoid on television... Even with news channels there is 20 minutes of ad time for every 10 minutes of news... What is anyone going to do?
