Rangoli Chandel's Twitter account suspended over Islamophobic post

Kangana Ranaut's sister landed in hot water after tweeting fake news that seemed to incite communal violence
Updated 17 Apr, 2020

Kangna Ranaut is not afraid of stirring controversy, which seems to be a genetic trait.

Recently, the actor's sister, Rangoli Chandel, had her Twitter account suspended after she posted a series of abrasive tweets that seemed to incite religious hatred and violence and encourage Islamophobia.

Chandel had tweeted claiming that the family of a Tablighi Jamaat member, who died of the coronavirus infection, had attacked police and doctors, a rumour that has already been debunked by credible media organisations.

The tweets were flagged up by Bollywood jewellery designer, Farah Khan Ali, Sacred Games star Kubbra Sait and filmmaker, Reema Kagti among others.

Following the complaints, Twitter took action and suspended the verified account which had over 95,000 followers.

This isn’t the first time Chandel has caused a controversy with her tweets. Earlier, she called for suspending the 2024 Lok Sabha election and just giving the term to Modi, given the economic crisis India is facing during the pandemic.

Last week, she claimed she received a warning from Twitter but didn’t explain why. Following this, she called the social networking site “anti-national” and said the platform would “go to graveyard” if they suspended her account.

In a statement reported by the Mid-Day tabloid, Chandel lashed out at the suspension: “Twitter is an American platform absolutely biased and anti-India, you can make fun of Hindu Gods call Prime Minister and Home Minister terrorists but if you say anything about people pelting stones on health workers and police forces, they suspend your account, I have no desire of empowering any such platforms with my perspective and honest opinions, so I am not reviving my account, I was my sister’s spokesperson now watch out for her direct interviews, she is a huge star she has many ways of reaching out, a biased platform can be easily avoided.”

Everybody should behave responsibly at social media to make this world a reasonable place to live. We all are interdependent. If any person behaves irresponsibly then that person should be held accountable by his/her peers and the authorities.

Both the sisters are not sane and humane. They should be isolated socially and emotionally for life time. More dangerous than virus!!!

The sad part of the story is this that these actors in the show business, by using modern media communication tools, will go to any extent to remain in the limelight. Unfortunately, with their latest controversial incursions into politics, issuing statement based upon communal and religious prejudices, is a new phenomenon among these show business actors, whose idea is not to pursue excellence in their own profession with clarity or honesty but to incite communal and religious hatred which is presently most popular traits in India, once considered to be a democracy but fast getting engulfed in the “Nuremberg Syndrome.”

I think she was right about the absurdity of the whole situation. Sadly part of her comment can be construed as incitement of violence. That said I don't feel she was targeting Muslims. At least I didn't read it that way. We do have issues with the mullahs even here in Pakistan. The government need to take control and go down on them hard. I am thinking jail time.

Kangna recently said she would refuse a film or had refused a film because it portrayed Hindu atrocities against Muslims. They were obviously going to blame Corona on the Muslims too, we definitely saw that coming !

Disgusting lady and the people endorsing it are even worse. If a Muslim were to speak like that they’d call them terrorists. The truth is the BJP and people like these are terrorists.
