Ali Sethi speaks up on FWICE's warning against Indo-Pak collaboration

"Music always transcends borders. It’s not something you can control or you should control,” said the singer.

Ali Sethi's live sessions on Instagram got everyone's attention when we all went in lockdown.

The singer was one of the early artists to have a live concert and then he went viral for hosting the most interesting live session where he had veteran Farida Khanum meet India's Rekha Bhardwaj. He participated in the session while Vishal Bhardwaj also made an appearance.

Since then many artists from both sides of the border started collaborating and for some time it was wonderful to see art transcend borders as it should.

However, after an online concert by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and some Indian performers, Indian body Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issued a notice warning Indian celebrities against working with Pakistani artists.

Sethi, took to Insta live once more to speak about the issue.

According to the singer, "Since yesterday, I’ve been receiving messages from people about the notice by an Indian organisation warning it's artists against collaborating with Pakistanis over social media."

"They have been criticising me, calling me names for taking the initiative when we aren't cared about the same way."

He explained, "This was spontaneous. It’s not something we planned, it did not have an agenda."

"Music always transcends borders, we listen to music from around the world... people listen to our music too."

"It’s not something you can control or you should control,” added Sethi.

Agree that Music and Art (Include sports too) transcends borders. But the organizer throwing the spanner on the collaboration has the ability to wreck the careers of people concerned. Ali, your idealistic views has its place. The need of the hour is "Observe silence". Let the animosity between the two countries dissipate. Give time to heal and then in due time we all can talk about transcendentals.

Any society should be able to decide how they behave, what they believe in, whom to associate with

Private citizens, even famous ones, have every right of association with whoever they please. IOt isn't up to any body or trade/social associations to stick their oar in to private relationships. So Ali Sethi, you did good. Keep it up.

Exactly. When the time comes, Indians will collaborate with the performers from every new state, except one.

Collaborate with other artists. Indians provided great value in the older times but the quality is very bad now. Work with Arabic musicians, collaborate with Turkish, Americans, British artists. Banglasdesh, Srilanka etc. We will wait til India decides to act with maturity. Don't see it happening until its own people realize the right from wrong and overthrow Modi Sarkar.

@Sharakra Lavana Ali please don't listen to an y one keep doing what you think is right. you will get 220 million advices but will follow only one. As for the two country's relations are concerned , they have worsened in past 70 years though people on both sides want to see improved relations. All politics .

One would need a spine to stand up against the coercion of this sort, an unfortunate misplacement by many in the industry! You are doing a great job Ali, keep at it!!
