Tariq Amin is looking for Pakistan's next top models
The fashion industry is in constant need of novel faces and since there is a void waiting to be filled, hairdresser and stylist Tariq Amin has decided to step in.
Amin, who's been doing this behind the scenes for a long time anyway, is now bringing an opportunity for aspiring models in the form of a talent hunt.
Talking to Dawn Images, he says, “The industry constantly needs an injection of newbies. Nobody else does it. That's why I'm taking it upon myself to conduct a nationwide talent hunt. We are looking for male and female models, 18-year-olds and above. We would like to adhere to international standards so the new crop of models could work anywhere in the world."
The auditions for this talent hunt, he says, will be held in all three cities starting from Islamabad (9 February, Beverly Centre) and then heading to Lahore (16 February, Avari Hotel) and Karachi (23 February, Avari Towers).
With over three decades in the industry, Tariq wants to find models who want to break into the business and also would be daring enough to get any cut and colour decided by the maestro himself.
He shares, “Tariq Amin, the brand, is celebrating 35 years in the industry. The model hunt will be followed by a three city showcase of our work on 60 new models and collaborating with the best in the industry; the criteria is that we want fresh faces and raw talent. We would prefer candidates that are not in the business already, and young people with the fearlessness to interpret the look we choose for them.”
He further states, “Looking for new talent is always challenging but worth it as it boosts the entire industry. Models become actors. Actors become celebrities. And celebrities become superstars. So it's always gratifying to have been part of creating so many of the stars we see in the industry today.”
Pointing to his protégés (Hasnain Lehri, Omer Shahzad, Shahzad Noor to name a few), he adds, “You all know who you are."
