Trigger warning: violence

A biopic on Malala Yousafzai has been in the works since 2017 and before its release at the end of the month, we've now gotten a trailer.

The Bollywood production titled Gul Makai stars Reem Shaikh as the young Pakistani activist.

Taking place in Swat Valley, the trailer shows familiar scenes which we've all known about following Malala's journey, now from her perspective. We see what led to Malala advocating for the right of girls' education and how she was attacked for it.

The film is summed up as an account of "the courageous journey and struggle of Malala, from her humble upbringing in the Swat Valley to her becoming the champion for free education to all."

The cast also includes Om Puri (his final film) although he doesn't appear in this trailer.

Gul Makai releases January 31.

This story is a Pakistani story and should have been made in Pakistan. Pakistan is currently making outstanding movies, far better than the usual garbage from bollywood. The story needs someone like Shoaib Mansoor or Jami to tell it to give it real justice, it is a story worth telling.

@Armagan Akram India makes more than 800 movies per year, even 5% are good, it means 40. More than what Pakistan ever produces in year. So, don't label Bollywood as garbage. Finally, it is few billion dollar industry giving jobs.

It's a story about a Pashtun girl from Swat yet everyone has the most obvious North Indian accent. Only in Bollywood.

I'll be eagerly waiting to see this movie - People like Malala don't belong to a single country, race or religion - they belong to the entire humanity.

@Armagan Akram Unfortunately, as a whole Pakistan has failed to embrace Malala. Some still cling on to conspiracy theories saying she is an American agent, some are simply jealous of her success, some unfairly judge her for studying outside Pakistan ... there is a long list. It is a story worth telling, yet it is a story Pakistan has yet to own, and perhaps doesn't deserve to tell!
