You star Penn Badgley accidentally revealed he'll be taking up the role of Joe Goldberg for a third season.

The 33-year-old star of the Netflix drama, in which he plays a narcissistic murderer who gets away with his crimes, let slip in an interview with Entertainment Tonight that season three of the show is a basically a done deal when discussing the role of Love Quinn — played by Victoria Pedretti — on the second season of the show, which released last week.

He said, "She doesn't appear to be the same kind of person. She doesn't appear to be the same kind of predator. She doesn't appear to be the same kind of… you know, dare I say, in the third season — oh, god!"

When pressed for more details, Penn said he "technically" cannot speak to "anything official", but unofficially... it's going ahead.

It is significant that You has been confirmed for a third season given findings that have emerged that Netflix shows are more likely to be cancelled after two seasons than those on traditional TV. The on-demand streaming platform also reportedly prefers shows that are around 30 episodes in total, so it is possible the third season may be You's last.
