Hamza Ali Abbasi's condolence message on Kulsoom Nawaz's death is really, really off

He knew it was wrong as he said "I'm sorry for sounding insensitive at a time of grief..." but even that didn't stop him
Updated 12 Sep, 2018

Many took to social media yesterday to mourn the death of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, wife of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who passed away in London after a months-long battle with cancer.

One of those people was Hamza Ali Abbasi...except not really.

He clubbed his condolence message with a plea to not let her death create sympathy for her jailed family members, all in the same breath:

He didn't just stop there; he tweeted some more, even acknowledging that this was not an appropriate time to say all of this: "I'm sorry for sounding insensitive at a time of grief..."

While PTI leaders seemed to demonstrate an understanding that someone's passing is not a time to do politicking, Hamza clearly missed that memo. Thankfully, many on Twitter wasted no time in reminding him of the same:

incorrigible to say the least. Almost all key leaders of PTI and their affiliates at one time or the other dehumanized the illness, made jokes and whenever possible tried to score political point against PML N, Nawaz Sharif and his sons throughout last 1 year of her illness. It would be callous and below the dignity of an ordinary human being for me not to salute PML N leaders specially Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif Hasan Nawaz, Hussein Nawaz, Maryam Nawaz and Mrs Kulsoom Nawaz herself and their entire extended family that they never responded let alone came on hard on all those critics who should be ashamed, ashamed and ashamed of their obsession with insensitivity and ill will. Last night I saw some of the comments for the first time, made by politicians, media anchors, expert commentators and was literally shattered to see how low we can get in our desire to follow a certain political ideology.

Hamza. Ali Abbasi should not get so emotional even if he fears it will generate sympathy for Sharif family. It is important to build strong and independent institutions so justice is dispensed to all without fear or favour.

Hamza is absolutely correct. By the way did she ever challenge her husband and children regarding the source of money that was used to buy overseas properties? Also, what about thousands of other prisoners whose family members die? Are they freed from the jail for two or three days?

Hamza Abbasi did not say anything wrong, sorry. He just said dont mix genuine grief with political manipulation and try and by pass the law. Obviously, there are those who started to link the two issues and Hamza responded. No need for crtisizers to get foul mouthed and abusive. Express yourselfves to the point.

@Zak the point is when no one asked for sympathy or forgiveness, then why speculate or quantify the mourning and adjudge others.........this is hypocrisy.......one needs to stay put in moments of grief, especially when it doesn't even involve that person.

Whilst Hamzas comments may seem insensitive, it is also Insensitive to suggest that criminals should be released becuse of a trangic event. Yes we should as society show them some compassion vis a vis the grieving process. however we should never forget That many a thousand have suffered at the hands of the criminals who should fulfill their punishment as per the law of the land.

I don't agree with what he said, but stand by his right to say it. When are we going to learn that 'Freedom of Speech' doens't only require one to be meek, apologetic and only speak soothing sugary words, to please some people, but never utter the truth, or scathing words, no matter how distateful or politically incorrect one might be? Get over it. He lives in a nation which is always talking about 'Freedom of Press' and 'Freedom of Speech' (like QB character for instance which many supported). but when someone makes ones opinion known, which does goes against the grain or untimtely, but factual nevertheless, everyone gets on his back and try to bring him/her down for being 'shameless', 'insensitive' or 'heartless'. If you can't stand some people or their opinions, don't follow them, don't read their tweets or get a life~

Mr. Hamza Abbasi is typical of the PTI, lots of show, flash and talk.. not much substance. Abbassi, who's only qualification is acting is following his leader, PM Khan, whose only qualification is hitting a ball with bat. All the opposition has to do is shut up and stay out of the way, the PTI will implode eventually.

Hamza has shown serious insensivity to matters that need general compassion and respect for the departed. The tragedy with our society has been that many of our our educated are the most zealous followers of cultism in all areas. I am a big critic of PMLN but will simply wish that Kulsoom Nawaz stays in peace and the family gathers the strength to face the tragic loss of the central piece. Hamza should learn to hold his angular side winders. Thanks.
