Akshay Kumar's Gold becomes the first Bollywood film to release in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia's cinemas make Bollywood debut with Akshay Kumar's film Gold.

Akshay Kumar's fictional film is inspired from India's Olympic win in 1948. It revolves around hockey with the actor playing a Bengali hockey coach.

The actor shared his excitement on Twitter: "The story of India’s first Gold medal victory for the first time in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Happy to share, #Gold is the first ever Bollywood movie to release in the Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia, in cinemas from today! "

This film is set in 1946 with the conversation of British India becoming India; it has a theme of patriotism about it.

The first Indian film to make it to Saudi cinema is Rajnikath's Kaala which was a massive success in the Gulf region.
