Now Ahmad Ali Butt is justifying his decision to miss election day for the Hum Awards

Okay, it seems like the trolls are getting to our celebrities, who are currently in Toronto to attend the award night
25 Jul, 2018

The 2018 Hum Awards are scheduled to take place this Saturday in Toronto, Canada so sadly, a lot of the film fraternity's big names are already abroad. Naturally, they've attracted a lot of flak for this, even from fellow fraternity members, such as Farhan Saeed and Imran Abbas.

After Yasir Hussain took to social media to defend why many of Pakistan's entertainers chose to skip election day, Ahmad Ali Butt is the next celebrity to share his two cents on the matter. It seems like the social media trolls are starting to push some buttons.

Butt took to Instagram to share that he was on a work trip, saying "Trust me, no one wants to make a 19 hour flight to Canada to party, we all work very hard to be where we want to be," before adding that he's "seen more places than you" so he's not dying to go overseas just for the sake of it.

He also said that while voting is your duty, it's not the only thing that makes you a Pakistani; according to him, what makes him a proud citizen of the country is "proudly representing my country all over the globe, paying my taxes on time and being a law-abiding citizen. To respect my army and institutions and my government and to stand against wrong doing."

Be that as it may, their absence from Pakistan on voting day will make us think twice about the integrity of their passionate social media statements about civic responsibilities in the future, wouldn't you agree?

Election is every five years the awards are probably every year. I don't know. What I do know is what is most important to Pakistan's celebrities is promoting themselves.

Ok. Agreed. But At least lets agree on one thing. You should not be the one giving lectures on patriotism.

Voting is one of the most important duty. Poll schedule was announced months ago. Organisers should have rescheduled accordingly or the celebs could have managed both things.

Entertainment business is just that - a business. Are you telling me that Pakistanis are not travelling abroad to do business during elections?

I think it is irresponsible on behalf of oraganizers to oraganize these awards on Election Day, the celebrities should have refused and participated in elections. Given priority to business class travel, good hotels and money!!!

Hello to all so called self proclaimed celebrities: What is more important to you, Pakistan or Hum Awards. And you clearly showed that MONEY / FAME is more important then Pakistan (just like politicians for whom money is more important then Pakistan). So go enjoy your Hum awards but please never ever say that you are Pakistani first or Pakistan first before everything. Thanks.

People the ordinary ones who accept them and make them stars should teach these shameless a lesson and for a change reject them and force them into obscurity by simply boycotting them, the ones who have insulted us in this manner.

You people celebs are the most irresponsible people. You are saying you are Pakistani and a proud one. damn you!!! You say one vote doesn't matter, you stupid person every bit counts, a dripping drop makes sea and you wasted that one drop that could had made difference in changing pakistan and you idiots wasted that one vote, now your are blaming others that they sell their vote for a plate of briyani. They sell their votes becuase they can't afford a plate of Briyani even once in a blue moon. So stop blaming others do your bit properly. paying your taxes and following law is not enough, every one of us pay taxes and follow law and yes thousands of Pakistani living overseas can't vote becuase you fools think that your vote doesn't count or matter, becuase people like you dont vote for the right person on the right day. So stop justifying. if people are abusing you you people deserve it.

I did not vote. Looking at the people who lost their lives and the senior citizens who came in wheel chairs to vote, I admit I made a big mistake and no amount of words would justify my actions. The reasons put in by this so called celebrity are bland. As a citizen of Pakistan, Mr. so called Celebrity its your duty to pay taxes and abide the law. You are not doing something out of this world. Perhaps, your sorry would have done miracles.

They are not being criticized for not voting but for what the people see as hypocrisy. Getting people to watch movies in the name of patriotism on one hand and foregoing patriotism when needed is the real problem here. Partying in Canada is just a poor excuse; people do travel 19 hrs for fun - nothing unusual about that.

@Khalid Toronto Entertainment is more than just a business, these people influence the public and especially the youth. They make their money from mainly the support of the youth .. as publicly figures they should be leading by example .. justifying their action at such a time is not defendable. Hum TV and these poor celebrities could have done much better.

If you live in Pakistan, and your main income source is also Pakistan then this is your ultimate duty for Pakistan to vote for your country's election. There should be no excuse or else the WHOLE Pakistan should stop watching his shows.

I am sorry but the immigrants are there because they live there and most of them do have dual passports. Those people earn their money from those countries and not from Pakistan. You are going from Pakistan to Canada for work that if avoided could have still landed a job else where. I have been to other countries too and I have seen their celebrities to be more active in election time than those in our country. I know you want to go with your friends and do not want to pass out on an adventure in Canada, but your status as a celebrity is not for granted and should start thinking about those that live outside of Punjab and Karachi. People do look up to you whether you like it or not.

Typical, self glorification of a celebrity trying to prove himself high and mighty. For the overseas Pakistanis who cannot afford to come and vote (like Labors and pregnant ladies etc.), i can understand the restriction. For a person like celebs who have chosen award for elections which mind you has an impact of 5 years and effects each and every aspect of Pakistan is mind boggling, unethical and selfish. And lets cut the chase here, celebs are not attending awards for the amazing image building of Pakistan, core intention is being in limelight and keeping that celeb status.
