Ed Sheeran is the soulful crooner behind many a favourite love song but... has he been stealing those tunes?

The pop singer has been sued for copyright infringement due to alleged similarities between his 2014 #1 single 'Thinking Out Loud' and the Marvin Gaye classic 'Let's Get It On'.

A company named Structured Asset Sales, which claims to own a portion of the song’s copyright, has complained in the lawsuit that 'Thinking' rips off several elements of 'Let's', “including but not limited to the melody, rhythms, harmonies, drums, bass line, backing chorus, tempo, syncopation and looping.”

The case was filed in U.S. District Court on Thursday and is the second lawsuit to befall this song. The heirs of Gaye’s co-writer, Ed Townsend Jr., also sued Sheeran for copyright infringement in 2016. According to the BBC, the outcome of that lawsuit is unclear.

Structured Asset Sales is suing Sheeran for damages in excess of $100 million.

Sheeran has previously been sued for ripping off 'Photograph' from a song written for former “X-Factor” winner Matt Cardle and he is also the subject of a pending $5 million lawsuit regarding a song he wrote for Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.
