Has Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli's latest bout of do-gooding backfired?

The celebrity couple have been served a legal notice by the man they publicly shamed for littering on a road in Mumbai, reports NDTV.

The man, Arhan Singh, was spotted by Anushka throwing a plastic wrapper from his car's window last week. Anushka called him out for littering from her neighbouring car and Virat Kohli uploaded a video of their exchange on social media. The video went viral.

Singh first hit back with a Instagram post, in which he bashed Anushka and Virat: "The garbage that mistakenly went out of the window of my 'luxury car' was way less than the garbage that came out from your mouth, from your 'luxury car's window, or the trashy mind of Virat Kohli to shoot and post this online... for whatever gains. Now that's some serious trash."

Now he's served them with a legal notice, saying to ANI, "Hi. My legal advisors have sent a notice to Mr Virat Kohli and Mrs Anushka Sharma Kohli. As the ball is in their court, no comments now. As in all fairness I should await their response."

While Anushka is ambassador for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Clean India Mission, not everyone is convinced that she handled the incident well. She's been criticised of being "rude", "impolite" and "arrogant" with Congress leader Sanjay Jha jumping into the controversy last night, saying, "Celebrities don't need to promote themselves when supposedly attempting a good thing. How much publicity do you want, guys?"

Anushka and Virat are yet to respond to the legal notice.

Suing for being scolded for littering? That's a new one! Must have come as a shock to them because people are used to open defecation there. Littering is practically nothing in relative terms.

In video, Anushka is not rude. Her voice was questioning but still appropriate.

Irrespective of what Virat and Anushka represent, they are right to call out people who treat their country as a garbage dump.

The litterer seems a publicity monger. Better courts send him ,the litterer, behind bar with a fine of Rs. Ten Thousand .

Anushka did no wrong on asking the man to throw plastic in the dustbin. The legal notice is of no legal effect, except a thinking in Arhan Singh mind to get some publicity.

I thought he didn't want to get any mileage out of this. He was in the wrong and Anushka didn't use any bad language. He played it cool but looks like it someone told him, that he might be able to get some monetary mileage. The impudence.

This is the litterbug's only chance to make some money for himself. His defense in court will be that everyone else is littering so why should he be singled out.

Policing public for every act is not Anuksha and Kohli's job. Kohli should focus on cricket and his wife should focus on her film career. I fully support the legal notice, what was the need for Kohli to make a video in the first place. Is he going to upload his and his wife's videos of every conversation. Very low and cheap of this couple to impose their righteousness upon others using social media. This couple has fame and money, but they certainly lack common sense, politeness, humbleness, and they are for sure not down to earth.

I think the guy who threw trash on the road for loitering and Anushka Sharma should be commended for doing her civil duties. I believe Anushka Sharma is one in millions in India and Pakistan who have courage to tell people to keep the country clean and to stop throwing their trash on roads and streets..

@Amit : Seriously..!! They are already famous, they don't need anymore publicity. People like you should change their mindset. Put aside hatred and jealousy and see the video again.

Simple the guy is already rich.... Put 24hrs surveillance on Virat Anushka house and see how they dump their garbage..... 9 out 10 celebs and super rich just dump it over their rich walls...... Do they segregate before dumping.... One would wonder.... For all the self righteous attitude they have and the payments they receive for all the so called green earth adverts......they should lead by example and not humiliate, destroy or endanger people.
