Harry Potter director will take on Five Nights at Freddy's movie

Its been more than two years since we've been hearing about a Five Nights at Freddy's movie but now we have details.

Blumhouse productions had acquired the rights to a FNAF movie last year and now Deadline reports that they've announced that filmmaker Chris Columbus will be directing the movie.

Five Nights at Freddy's or FNAF as its fans (and the obsessed) call it, is an Indie game by Scott Cawthon that revolves around a Chuck-E-Cheese style pizzeria where possessed animatronics are out to get you. The game's success spanned out to a six part games series which attracted people less for the game-play and more for the lore behind the games.

Chris Columbus has helmed many classic such as Home Alone and Gremlins. He is also the director behind the iconic Harry Potter movies. We are quite surprised that a maker of so many children friendly movies is taking on such a horror flick. Then again, as Cawthon has said about the FNAF series, "What is seen in Shadows that is easily misunderstood in the mind of a child."

Blumhouse productions is known for its lower budget horror films like Insidious and The Purge.Their recent film Get out is up for four Oscar nominations, making it one of the few horror films to be nominated. With such credentials, FNAF might just be the movie to break the spell of bad video game movies!

Looks like FNAF fans will have yet another piece to puzzle in the FNAF timeline once the film is out. However, no release date has been given yet, so you'll have to wait!
