A new animated series titled Teetoo and Tania was announced by the producers of the award-winning children’s television show Burka Avenger at a ceremony on Wednesday.

The new series by Unicorn Black will launch on Pakistan Television today. According to the production company, the concept behind the series is novel and entertaining, as well as a vehicle for powerful messages.

“At a time where there is much negativity about Pakistan in the media and press, this show aims to highlight Pakistani heroes and role models to inspire the youth of Pakistan,” said creator, director and producer Haroon Rashid.

Mr Rashid said the series highlights figures such as Edhi and Aitzaz Hasan, the 15-year-old schoolboy who died preventing a suicide bomber from attacking his school. Other well-known individuals featured in the show include Muniba Mazari, Mushtaq Chappra and Dr Ruth Pfau.

“This show highlights positives of Pakistan. Not only are heroes and role models featured in each episode but also the wonderful Pakistani talent that produced this show. The quality of the show is at par with international productions. This is one more step in helping put Pakistani animation on the world map,” Mr Rashid added.

The series follows Teetoo, an alien bureaucrat that works for the Galactic Council, which has identified earthlings as a threat to the very existence of the universe because of their penchant for aggression and war.

When the alien crash lands on Earth, which he has determined should be destroyed, he lands in the backyard of 16-year-old Tania.

The show follows Tania’s quest to change the alien’s mind about destroying the planet, by showcasing a different Pakistani hero in each episode.

“You will have to watch the series to find out if Tania will be able to save Earth,” said Mr Rashid at the launch.

The launch also included a teaser of the new series, as well as a screening of the first episode.

Teetoo and Tania will air Thursday at 6.10pm on PTV Home.
