Will burn down cinema halls if Padmavati distorts history, 'dishonours' queen: Rajput clan

Jai Rajputana Sangh says any romantic relationship shown between Queen Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji won't be tolerated

The Rajput clan in India has issued threats cautioning cinema houses and multiplexes for consequences if Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Padmavati is released without getting pre-screened to Rajput organisations, Hindustan Times reported Monday.

Members of the Jai Rajputana Sangh on Saturday met the management of several cinema halls and multiplexes in Jaipur, saying "any distortion of history" for the purpose of the film won't be tolerated.

"Our members are trained in handling a large array of weapons ranging from swords to AK-47 guns. We won't let anyone dishonour Padmavati and insult the people of Rajasthan," Reta said.

"If any romantic relationship is shown between Queen Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji, we will burn cinema halls screening the film,” said Bhanwar Singh Reta, founder and leader of Jai Rajputana Sangh, which has 265,000 members.

"Our members are trained in handling a large array of weapons ranging from swords to AK-47 guns. We won't let anyone dishonour Padmavati and insult the people of Rajasthan," Reta said.

Around 200 cinema houses in Rajasthan have been sent the warning letter, and a few in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat as well, he added.

"Our demand is that the filmmakers screen it to a panel of representatives from various Rajput organisations. We will only give them a go-ahead to release the film after we are satisfied that no scene insults queen Padmavati,” said Reta.

Sangh members also criticised Indian Minister of Information and Broadcasting Smriti Irani and burnt her effigy. "Irani had said that the film will face no trouble during its release. We condemn this statement," said Reta.

The film is scheduled to release on December 1.

The story is more like a fantasy. Rajputana people should remember how the Sultans of Delhi routed them one after other for generations. They have a history, but only of defeats at the hands of Muslims. Indians will try their best to show him a villain, but the truth is that he was not a man to lure into Padmini's beauty.

I am against violence however no artist has right to distort history in the name of art. People grow up listening to historical stories and no one has the right to change or challenge their life's build blocks. If you are creative, come up with your own story. If the story is historical then you have no right to modify it.

Why is Smiti Irani creating communal trouble? Whether it is true history or not, in the current emotional climate of India, it is better to avoid alienating one identity by another identity (Sanjay Leela is considered as anonther identity, i.e not Rajput.) Perhaps he must have consulted Rajput organizations before the project, and smoothened the lines to be acceptable -- when people feel respected/consulted, they develop trust, and no problems arrise.

This is just a film they have to make some changes to attract audience. history when it's written also little distorted to one's favor and what happened to secular, educated, tolerant, freedom of right India. Looks like RSS, Rajput and so many others groups running their own areas and deciding who live, work, eat and is Indian. No land of laws. Old India is back or law less , wild frontier.

So she slept with Alauddin Khilji and bore him a couple of children. that is a historical fact. He was a good looking man and like a lot of Hindu women she fell for him. So now these so-called Rajasthanis are threatening to kill and burn. Face the truth, don't bury your head in the sands of Rajasthan.

Wonder why people give so much importance to Bollywood! Let me linger in the money made through so called creativity - so what if they come on large hoardings to show you various kinds of underwears and real estate - so what if they make money on the expense of rickshawalas!! Why should you complaint - after all just like the governments of the day - we put them there.... no?

Publicity stunt. There is no way and alliance between padmavati and khilji is going to be shown. This simply does not exist in fact or fiction. By making noise around a non existent non assumed threat they are just trying to garner more eyeballs

Rajputs should not be insulted. These film people can go to any extant to earn money giving the excuse of art and creativity. Rajputs should get the respect they deserve. I as a Rajput feel hurt by such money mongering film people.

If so called film makers try to play with people's sentiments, this is bound to happen . A nomadic barbarian Muslim invaded a kingdom in order to get its queen and queen foiled his plans by immolating herself . This is very sad part of history and should be represented as it happened in history .

Movies are hardly made of real stories, spices, romance and songs are added to make it commercially successful. Everyone know that, what in movies are not reality. One man can defeat army, in reality there is no Rambo else US was not struggling in Afghanistan after 17 years on war!

Rajput valor is only a myth. They gifted away their sisters and daughters to the Mughal harems, so they could rule, their fiefdoms.
