Vidya Balan is now part of the Indian censor board

Given the actress is known for her risqué roles, we're hoping this means we'll see more reflective cinema from Bollywood

We reckon Indian filmmakers were relieved when Pahlaj Nihalani was removed from his position of power at the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

But there's another reason to celebrate: the newly constituted CBFC, which will now be chaired by writer Prasoon Joshi also includes Vidya Balan!

The actress looks forward to a phase where cinema celebrates present-day sensibilities and realities, according to Times of India.

"I am very happy to join the CBFC and I hope to fulfill my responsibilities as a member to the best of my abilities. I look forward to this new and exciting phase where our cinema will be allowed to reflect the sensibilities, realities and the complexities of the society we are living in today," Vidya shared in a statement.

The CBFC has been reconstituted for a period of three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier, a PIB statement said on Friday.

Vidya is joined by Gautami Tadimalla, Narendra Kohli, Naresh Chandra Lal, Neil Herbert Nongkynrih, Vivek Agnihotri, Waman Kendre, T.S. Nagabharana, Ramesh Patange, Vani Tripati Tikoo, Jeevitha Rajasekhar and Mihir Bhuta.

Given that the actress has done her fair share of racy roles (who doesn't remember her from Dirty Picture?), we're hoping this means we'll see more real cinema coming out of Bollywood without fear of extreme censorship.

Congratulations to her. She wanted to have more power for herself than spending time to empower other women. However, in her place at CBFC she will have the opportunities to make art and cinema as a powerful medium to educate and influence the public in a positive and mature manner.
