Project Ghazi delayed after its premiere, Humayun Saeed says it won't be ready anytime soon

The actor predicts the film will need 4-6 months of work before being ready for final release
14 Jul, 2017

Project Ghazi had its premiere last night and it was clear the film had encountered significant issues in its post-production phase.

Choppy editing, poor sound and many other technical flaws were evident in the production and we haven't even started on the plot, which we didn't understand -- or the acting and direction. Trust us. We were there.

It looks like the team behind the film realised this and within two hours, took to social media to announce the postponement of the film.

The post claims that, "Films of this magnitude require extensive technical work and hence to do justice to this film genre, we have decided to delay the release from July 14, 2017."

Sheheryar Munawar‏ also took to Twitter to announce the delay.

Images got in touch with Humayun Saeed to find out more. The actor not only confirmed the news but also revealed his role in delaying the official release.

Says Humayun, "When I saw the movie last night , it was obvious that it was incomplete. There were issues with the sound and the sync was off. Usually I take care of most of the work in my own films and we make sure that the cast and crew can see the film before its release so that if there is an issue, we resolve it. With Project Ghazi, these people [the production team] didn't have have time and were under a lot of pressure due to the summer release demand. They had to have it ready by July and the producer is a new person so I guess they took way too much pressure and rushed it."

He adds, "I couldn't let this be the final product of Project Ghazi. The audience couldn't be shown this. How can people judge a movie that they couldn't even hear properly?"

For Humayun, sitting through the film was a Herculean task. "I just couldn't bear it, I left within twenty minutes, thinking if I can't understand it how will anyone else."

Humayun reveals that Project Ghazi has been in trouble for a while when it comes to timing. Says the star "We didn't even get to do any promotions for it. I personally feel that after last night's announcement about the film's delay people know more about this film than they did before."

Humayun reveals that he did make an effort to stop the film from releasing in its current state.

"I did make some calls to stop the film. We had some contacts from the ISPR supporting the film and I told them that this film just cannot be released in the current state that it is. I think the producers also understood last night that the film needs work. I don't know if the delay is on me but I don't mind, I'm glad there's time now. Its all for the betterment of the film."

According to Humayun, Project Ghazi needs more than a month or two to reach the standard it should be at.

"I highly doubt Project Ghazi will be ready in a month or two. I'm against that because I don't want them to rush it again. I think the film needs a good four to six months in post production to be a good release. A superhero film like this needs a lot of time in post production and with Ghazi its not just fixing the sound. Its taking care of the jumpy edits and making sure there's a story the audience can follow. i don't want compromises here."

Having seen the film, we're grateful to Humayun for making the call -- even though it should have been made before the film's official premiere.

There is no new release date for Project Ghazi yet. But we are certainly hoping this delay is for the better!

I don't understand who is investing in Pakistani films every film is a disaster. Better to stick with TV dramas.

Every other Pakistani Film is directed towards War and Super hero. No other topic is discussed! Time for Pakistani Cinema to venture into other subjects also.
