Fanoos sees composer Zohaib Kazi travel across Pakistan to record regional musicians, be they established stars or hidden gems.

The first track to come out of Fanoos is The Gulmit Anthem, which features students of the Bulbulik Heritage Centre that strives to preserve the region's unique Pamirian Wakhi language.

You can listen to the song here

Says Zohaib Kazi about collaborating with the school, "The most exciting thing was that there is no real gender discrimination in that region, and both men and women sang this song equally and with a lot of gusto, which made the whole sound feel like a powerful anthem.”

Zohaib Kazi is known for 2015 concept album Ismail Ka Urdu Sheher, which was also released as a graphic novel. For project Fanoos, which comprises of six sets of artists, Kazi has travelled to the artists' homes to record them in their own surroundings.

'The Gulmit Anthem' has beautiful rhythm and melody. While it may not be possible for many to understand the lyrics, the voices of the singers are soft and in tune so you can't help but try to sing along. There is some fusion in the track which is not forced so the track seems to flow. It's bound to get stuck in your head. We've got it on repeat!

The second track from Fanoos will release later in the week.

@JI completely agree with you. Also we can barely hear the female voice.
