Mahesh Bhatt gets death threats, files police complaint

An unidentified caller threatened to kill Mahesh's actor daughter Alia and wife Soni if his terms are not met

Bollywood filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt has received death threat from an unidentified caller, reports Times of India.

The caller has threatened to kill Bhatt's daughter, actor Alia Bhatt, and wife Soni Razdan, if he fails to pay his demanded sum of INR5 million.

Bhatt filed a case at the Juhu Police Station yesterday under section 387 (causing a person to fear death or grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion).

Bhatt tweeted early this morning that the extortion attempt was "nipped in the bud" by the MP and UP police.

According to reports, Bhatt received a threat call on February 26, which he brushed off as a prank call. A series of text messages followed the call and a 'gang leader' threatened that if he failed to pay up, the person would fire rounds of bullets at Alia and Soni.

This threat comes two years after a group of 13 people were arrested on November 2014 for plotting to kill Mahesh Bhatt.

Bhatt has made many enemies because of his blunt and irresponsible nature. Hope he may get some wisdom to spend his time in some productive work. Something that he can return back to the society.

Nothing should be taken lightly. There are many gangs in India who live on extortion money. Most of the time police is involved in this business.

@QURESHI There are thousand Directors more versatile and successful than Bhatt in India. But he is more famous in Pakistani love and creating unnecessary controversies and behave like a big intellectual which he never can.
