Mahira Khan prays for a peaceful world, breaks silence on Indo-Pak tensions

"I strongly condemn any act of terror, any loss of human life no matter which soil it is on," said the actress
Updated 08 Oct, 2016

In the midst of what has been a charged week or so for Pakistani and Indian actors working on cross-border project, Mahira Khan has finally taken to her Facebook to give her two cents on the matter.

In a post published on the social networking site today, the Bin Roye leading lady shared that she hoped for her child to grow up in a peaceful world: "As a Pakistani and citizen of the world I strongly condemn any act of terror, any loss of human life no matter which soil it is on. I will not rejoice in bloodshed and war. I will always hope for and dream of a world where my child can live without it, and always plead with everyone to imagine a peaceful world."

The actress also said that she has always held the esteem of Pakistan paramount, stating "In the 5 years that I have been working as an actor I believe that I have tried my best to keep my country's respect intact - by being a professional and by representing Pakistan here and elsewhere to the best of my abilities."

Following the Uri incident and deteriorating relations between India and Pakistan, one of the biggest hits was felt by Pakistani and Indian actors.

The Indian Motion Picture Producers Association's (IMMP) banned Pakistani talent from working in India, which invited criticism not only from Pakistan but within India too. Pakistani cinemas responding by refusing to air Indian movies locally.

Rumour has it that the release of Raees opposite SRK being delayed. Will the tensions hamper her Bollywood debut? Only time will tell.

Indians will still not accept her statement as it is very generic and does not mention mumbai, uri, pathankot, gurudaspur, kashmir terrorism.

It is ironic that the lady, in a bid to garner popular support for her showbiz, has mixed up the concepts of 'terrorism' and 'freedom fighting'. What appears from her comments is that she wants to denounce what happened in Uri. If she had met or seen Kashmiri women, then perhaps, some empathy would have prevailed in her. When personal interests prevail over national's, then there would be brutalities in Kashmir and elsewhere and no action would be taken...Martin Luther once said "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere".

Listen young lady, you are a Pakistani and always remain a Pakistani for Indians. Why you dying to work in Indian film industry when you make your name by working in Pakistan. They called you because you are star in Pakistan, they didn;t make you star. Better come back to your country and work here. Rozi aur naam dayna wala Khuda hai Indians nahin.

We all pray for peace as the good Karma within us all does that to us. But for some hate is too overpowering so much so that some are bent upon 'isolating Pakistan'!

You have your right to your opinion and so do I. I wonder why no statements came from our actors and actresses when more than 100000 Pakistanis were killed in foreign sponsored terrorism inside Pakistan in the last 15 years. We understand you need to protect your job and investments. But there is more to life than money.

@Rajesh Punjabi I, as an Indian, completely accept her statement, and her right, in fact duty as a patriotic citizen ... "to keep her country's respect intact." Mention of or absence of specifics does not detract from her basic message that she strongly condemns terror. Mentioning some instances may leave out others, and this could be (mis)interpreted as being selective, as distinguishing between "good terrorists" and "bad terrorists." Good going, Mahira!

Just praying for ourselves because we have good karma inside us is not sufficient. One needs to act against people like Hafeez Sayeed who preach and practice hate towards others, within the nation's borders.

While we are the biggest victims of terrorism ourselves, it is expected of us to condemn every act of terrorism on Indian soil and even acts of legitimate resistance are misconstrued as terrorism. Why don't the Indians condemn multiple terrorist attacks which have claimed over 60,000 lives in Pakistan? I think Mahira's statement does not go far enough, if Erica Derrickson, Nitasha Kaul and Arundhati Roy can condemn the tyrannical Indian-occupation of Kashmir, then why act these so-called celebrities? Injustice and massacre of Kashmiris is real abomination!!

She is worried that her career in Bollywood ended even before it started. She was waiting for Raees to release she was sure this movie will be a hit and she will get more offers from India that’s the reason she didn’t sign any Pakistani movie. After this tension between the two countries and Pakistani actors being banned she can see this won’t happen anytime soon plus Sharukh Khans previous 2 films failed which may also effect the business of Raees. Mahira must concentrate on Pakistani movies otherwise there are other actresses who are taking over. After recent success Mahwish Hayat is more popular than her and Saba Qamar is also getting attention after the trailer of Lahore say Agay.
