Maybe I am popular because I can do a bit of everything: Salman Khan

A bit of dancing, a bit of acting, a bit of action!

Salman Khan has been in the industry for about three decades and his fan base just keeps growing.

In an interview with Open Magazine, Sallu tried to figure out how his stardom keeps increasing.

Khan's close friend, Ashley Rebello compares the Bajrangi Bhaijaan star to Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan and explains how Salman's stardom is different from the other two Khans. "The difference between Salman and the other stars in India is that while all of them are respected and have huge followings, Salman is loved,” he says.

The Dabangg hero himself explains how he makes it a point to retain the positive characteristics of the characters he plays in the movies, within himself. "I want my film and character to be like that… like Bruce Lee. It has to be a hero, you know. A good man who people can look up to," says Khan.

He adds, “If I do a film, I should know I’m taking this character back home. I want to do those movies that will change my own personality. ‘Wow, what a man’, ‘wow, what a personality.’ I want this to happen to me. Maybe two per cent when I start… but karte, karte, till the end of the film, I want 25 per cent of the character’s qualities in my life."

Upon being asked if the star ever pondered about his popularity, Sallu replied, "Kaun sochega, boss? Chal raha hai, toh chal raha hai. (Who’ll think about it? If it’s working, it’s working). No analysis. Maybe I am popular because I can do a bit of everything. A bit of dancing, a bit of acting, a bit of action…,”

@Sumit Mazumdar I am not sure why these 90s heros are still popular in young roles. Some (Amir Khan / Ajay Devgan /Salman) are really doing well in acting but no new young talent has been able to reach any height.

He is emotional and may be that helps him connect with his fans through his roles.

The credit also goes to subcontinent public for having a really bad acting taste in the entire world. How can we compare such mediocre actors with Jack Nickolson or Robert dinaro, Tom Hanks, Daniel Day etc who are the acting genius of all time.

He may be right, there is a change in his personality slowly but surely. He is funny with an attitude, which makes him likeable.

@irfan I do not agree because the Indian subcontinent abounds in talents of all sorts. you don't become an actor if you can only do serious and sober roles. in fact more difficult is to make your audience smile when they are not ready for it. salman khan has done a variety of roles starting from boy next door to bhai jan in bajrangi. can't we appreciate how he has morphed into a very sensible and balanced actor. whilst govinda is not the subject I would state that he too brought with him a new genre of audience and skills.
