Comedian Aziz Ansari has been getting a lot of attention for his work in the Netflix series Master of None but this is the best thing to happen so far.

Ansari has received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series -- and he's the first South Asian actor to do so!

While there have been a few actors of South Asian descent to be nominated for Emmys (Naveen Andrews for Lost and Ben Kingsly for a number of miniseries like Mrs Harris and Joseph), Ansari is the first to be nominated for a lead role.

Prior to this Emmy nomination, Ansari earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Comedy Series, also for his part on Master of None.

Ansari plays the role of Dev Shah, an actor trying to make his way around New York. The show has been appreciated for breaking down stereotypes surrounding Asian men and also for the diversity present in the series, which has earned it the right to be called progressive compared to many other shows.

There is nothing like "South Asia". Aziz is an American. A very, very liberal muslim. His parents come from India. I think he is maturing. I dont subscribe to his comedy with a lot of cuss words.

Pls. stop calling him "of South Asian descent". He has got nothing to do with Pakistan. Very proud of my fellow Indian heritage person. Kudos for making India proud in the world.

Aziz is American , his parents were from India, he carries an American passport so all Indians and Muslims stop making a claim on him. It's funny most of them making claim didn't knew him as an actor or even he existed

This is one more reason I like India, being a Pakistani. They proud on AK AZAD although he was muslim, they proud Khan and now they proud on Ansari. We Pakistanis always pull the legs even we pull the leg of AQ KHAN.

Asian descent means what? Is he from India, Pakistan, Srilanka, Bangladesh, Nepal etc. The name is muddied in Asian descent.

@Awesome Lyrics Happy about his success. But most Indian parents want their kids to be a doctor not a lawyer. Few Indian parents want their kids to be in a live in relationship with goris. Last but not the least, how many Pakistani parents would be okay with their son being openly atheist? So he is hardly a role model for south asian kids.

People of Indian origin are doing good in US. 2016, Scripps national spelling bee co champions are two Americans with Indian roots and this is 3 rd time in row that there have been two co champions and surprisingly all with Indian roots. Not only spelling bee but even in National Geography bee contest, its been kids with Indian roots winning for past 5 years.

What is problem calling Aziz an Indian Muslim instead of giving greater geographical area like South Asia.It looks like that you want to report it because he is Muslim but the problem was that he is of Indian descent.
