India and Pakistan should have joint productions, says Adnan Siddiqui

The actor feels Pakistan can learn from India's reality TV business
20 Jun, 2016

Adnan Siddiqui is actually very popular in India!

The Mere Qatil Mere Dildaar actor has quite a fan following there especially for his shows like Kaisi Ye Qayamat, Ruswaiyaan and Vasl.

The feeling is mutual, as according to The Hindustan Times, Adnan Siddiqui feels Pakistan could learn a thing or two from Indian reality TV shows.

“I am not very familiar with Indian drama shows but if you talk about Indian reality shows and the way they are executed, then there is no comparison. I don’t think, we in Pakistan, have reached that point where we make such big reality shows. We have everything taped,” says Siddiqui.

The 46-year-old actor feels there should be more collaboration between India and Pakistan for the sake of global entertainment.

“I feel that we can work together if we have a joint production. We can have directors from Pakistan, actors from India work together. That is going to be a big change. If I want to copy Indian style or India wants to copy Pakistan’s style, then that won’t work. We should work in our own capacity and horizons,” he says.

While he may support joint productions, Siddiqui has no plans for Bollywood after the release of his debut film, Mom:

“I am not considering any offer from Bollywood seriously. I am waiting for my first movie to be launched and screened in India and all over the world and then I will reach out organically. I am already juggling too many things. I am into production, I am looking after my outdoor advertising, I am acting and of course working in India and being away from home. I just cannot take too many things, I have my plate full right now,” he says.

Of course he is a decent actor and he is right about collaboration. But I don't think majority of Indians are ready for Pakistani drama or films because most of us don't understand Urdu. Though we can understand what's going on in story, we hardly understand Urdu words. And that's why many people don't watch them.

I cannot say about joint productions but Indian TV serial makers can learn a huge lot from their Pakistani counter parts. Pakistani dramas have a point and they end. Indian serials are 'chewing gum' being extended beyond reason and endlessly as well as meaninglessly. No wonder some Indian channels are showing Pakistani serials. One should always have an open mind to learn even from a child.

@ABC ... And not just that... Pakistani dramas are utterly boring as they all revolve around mom-in-law and daughter-in-law dynamics, which is so primitive and third-world.

@ABC In that case, you are not following Pakistani dramas in Zindegi, a Zee channel available on TataSky. After watching few of them, I became fan of people like Fawad Khan and Maya Ali. I don't know about all Pakistani dramas but at lease those aired on Zindegi are much better than our regular Indian dramas. My personal favorite is Zidegi Gulzar Hain, it was awesome. Please watch if you get a chance.

This is like telling India you bring the wheat and we'll bring the husk. Let's separate them and share the wheat! Similar scenario he is talking about quality, market size, talent in all aspects etc

Actors and Artists should collaborate with each other on the basis of a creative vision rather than a "improving relations project", the later will take care of itself. Let both sides talk ( which is very easy for this community ), and go ahead without making a fuss, and let the world see the results.

No they should not. If pakistan film industry and TV plays are to flourish, then drive your own direction and standard. Do not copy others, and let them take the credit of immense pakistani talent. Worst idea with people with short sighted vision.

India is our neighbor and we should have collaboration not only in arts but other feilds also. Big 'But', it is not happning. Below are my views you can call conservative if you may. Our flim industry just creeping up and it will not endure competition with India's fully matured one. And since we share same langues India will not want us to progress in this field. Why do you guys in flim industry are so much impressed by indian movies and dramas? Everyone of you have a dream to work in indian flim industry. You guys are doing just fine in movies and dramas. Our audience have to get matured too. Sincerely

For collaboration there has to be a meeting of the minds. The vision seems sensible, but there are a lot of pitfalls along the way. Somebody has to lead the team, get the right mix of people from both the countries, independently without the help of any government. Each team should have a stake in this collaboration for it to be successful.

@ABC wrong, people in North Western India can pick up most of the words, and those which we can't, we can easily relate to by stitching the whole sentence. Why Pakistani dramas are losing popularity is because they use more or less the same story lines. Other than their comedy dramas, which are few, the rest become very boring after you watch a few dramas. Thankfully, they are short.

What is wrong in making a few attempts? Yes, there are linguistic barriers. But they can be overcome if you go for dubbing into various languages or reproducing the film in different languages. True, there are cultural differences also between India and Pakistan. But that is the very reason why there should be joint productions. That will enable exchange of ideas and cross cultural talks among the artists as well as viewing public.

I strongly disagree, because our way of telling story is different. It will hurt our dramas seriously. This should not happen until strong people are there to support the cause

@Dillivala I am from Gujarat, but I hardly understand Urdu words. Though understanding storyline is not difficult at all, but incomprehensible words are a kind of obstacle. Zindagi Gulzar hai was exceptionally good,so I have seen it because of catchy story but rest are pretty much same. I don't watch Hindi drama either.
