Harry Potter fans, brace yourselves. Indian actor Naseeruddin Shah reveals that he was asked to play the role of Albus Dumbledore in the film adaptation of JK Rowling's famous Harry Potter series.

In a live Twitter interview with Times of India, Shah disclosed that he was approached for the role, however, he turned down the offer.

“My agent wanted me to audition for Dumbledore’s character after Richard Harris died. I was asked if I would like to audition for it. But I wouldn’t audition for it," the actor wrote during the Twitter chat.

Can you imagine? We’re not sure how the late actor Harris would feel about this.

Dumbledore was played by late English actor Richard Harris in the first two installments of the series, before his demise in 2002.

There is a huge difference between "offered the role" and "asked for auditions"

@Ali - Naseeruddin Shah is extremely talented and could have gotten the role and fit the character really well..

I don't think so ... unless Mr. Shah can show written correspondence, I will not believe this. Just imagine Harry Potter with a miniature version of Dumbledore :)

There must be some reason behind the decision that we don't know yet. Perhaps Naseeruddin Shah is a great actor. I can just imagine how would he look like if he was doing the role.

Being called for audition and being cast as Dumbledore, huge gap. It's like being asked to appear in an exam and actually getting selected.

Audition does not mean role, Mr. Shah. Do not get ahead of yourself.

Funny... Naseeruddin Shah is one of the best actors of our generation. I am glad he didn't audition for a stupid role.

@ Masood Is this mindless hatred really necessary? He was not offered the role. He was asked to audition... very different things. There are many good reasons why he may not have wanted that role or couldn't audition.

Please NO. Maybe the desi version of Hari puttar, but not the English version. Such a supremely talented actor should stick to his limits in Indian and Pakistani cinema. We all can see how out of place and artificial people like Irrfan Khan appear in Hollywood, even with one fourth the talent that Shah has.

Perhaps people here are not aware. Naseeruddin used to act in parallel cinema (non-bollywood) long time back and was considered a talent there. When he made his first bollywood movie (tridev) it was groundshaking. people felt one more fine talent lost to bollywood nuisance. At any rate, he is indeed a fine actor.
