Jawani Phir Nahi Ani is the biggest winner at AFA 2016
The ARY Film Awards celebrated a few of the best films to come out of Pakistani cinema in 2015 — and in style. Held at the Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai, the award ceremony flew out the stars, who glittered in their best on the night.
Jawani Phir Nahi Aani was the night's big winner, with its cast and crew sweeping up a majority of the awards. Moor stood out in the technical awards category, and standout performances from films like Karachi Se Lahore, Jalaibee and Wrong No were also rewarded.
Here's a list of the night's winners:
The Best Actor awards went to JPNA's Humayun Saeed and Sohai Ali Abro. Aisha Khan and Hamza Ali Abbasi also picked up the Best Supporting Actor accolades for their performance in the film.
The audience also did not forget one Ahmed Ali Butt, who was awarded Best Actor in a Comic Role for his JPNA performance, and also entertained the attendees with his Taher Shah mimicry at the ceremony.
Other actors awarded in the ceremony include Moor's Ayaz Samoo, who won Best Actor in a Negative Role, Ayesha Omar from Karachi Se Lahore who won for Best Star Debut Female and Danish Taimoor who won Best Star Debut Male for his role in Wrong No.
Manto's lead cast Sarmad Khoosat and Sania Saeed picked up for the Jury Choice Award for Best Actor and Actress.
The Strings won a well-deserved Best Background Score award for Moor, while Rahat Fateh Ali Khan won Best Singer Male for Halla Gulla and Sara Raza won Best Singer Female for Wrong No. Best Music went to Shani Arshad for their soundtrack of JPNA, while Sheema Khan won for Best Choreography of the same film.
Moor's DoP Farhan Hafeez and special effects team was awarded Best Cinematography and Best Special Effects, while JPNA picked up Best Editing and Best Action.
Vasay Chaudhry became the proudest writer in the room as he picked up Best Story, Best Screenplay and Best Dialogue for JPNA.
Nabila won Best Makeup and Best Costume Design for JPNA. She shared the latter award with Jahanzeb Qamar.
JPNA picked up both Best Film and Best Director in both audience and jury's choice categories.
What's an award ceremony without a stage appearance by Mahira and Fawad Khan? Mahira picked up the Radio Spice Entertainer of the Year award, while Fawad Khan received an International Film Icon accolade.
A Lifetime Achievement Award was posthumously awarded to Waheed Murad, while Javaid Sheikh received the Tribute to Legend award.
