Celebs flock to Dubai as Pakistan Super League kicks off

Fawad Khan, Ali Zafar and Hamza Ali Abbasi in one stadium? Stop the madness!
Updated 05 Feb, 2016

Gone are the days when Pakistanis obsessed about teams from the Indian Premier League (IPL) -- our very own Pakistan Super League (PSL) has taken over.

And there was no shortage of star power at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium last night at it's opening ceremony.

The movers and shakers of the cricket world from all over the globe were there but other celebs also popped in to rep their respective teams.

No wonder that as a match between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators inaugurated the T20 cricket tournament, all eyes were on the bleachers instead.

Well, you can't blame the spectators: Fawad Khan was sitting there with his family looking picture perfect.

All set to support the team! #ISLU #PSL #islamabadunited

Humaima Malick couldn't help but pop in for a shot with the power couple.

He even took this adorable picture with Hamza Ali Abbasi.

Looks like Ayesha Omar's feeling a lot better now after that unfortunate accident.

Seriously, we meant it when we said there was way too much star power in that stadium.

Like, Sean Paul was there for crying out loud!

And this was just the opening ceremony; the tournament has a lot more in store for us!

Yes, it was glitzy and glamours, but there wasn't much "Pakistan" in it. The opening ceremony could have been associated with virtually any other country of the world. It was too generic. And what the hell was Sean Paul doing there? Is he really famous in Pakistan? Why not show the best local talent instead? It looked like Najam Sethi and Co. were trying to look cool in front of Western/Indian audience, forgetting that this is "Pakistan" Super League and its primary audience is in Pakland. The match, that followed, was great though. Congratulations to Quetta i general and M.Nawaz, Luke Wright in particular.

@kranaiitr nice try of manipulation. Check the video further down, does it look empty there? Do you know at what stage the picture was taken in the VIP stand - how long before the opening? Some people!!

The fact that the "Pakistan Super League" is not being played in Pakistan says a lot about the future of this tournament and is frankly an insult to the people of Pakistan. There is no way the PSL will be able to compete with the IPL in the long run.

@Arslan IPL people man, they can't digest the successful launch and hence resort to finding flaws.

Atleast PSL invited the Indian players to participate in PSL. It's upto them if they don't come. The small minded Indians don't even invite Pakistani players to the IPL. Shows the huge difference in maturity level of the two countries.

@Moderate Voice Competition with IPL or any other league seems irrelevant.....PSL is meant to create its on impact on the development of cricket in Pakistan. Unfortunately if it follows what has been happening in IPL it too could go corrupt.

@Niran Do you think PSL would be able to generate funds to pay players like Kohli, Raina ,Dhoni ,yuvi etc.? what kohli spends on getting his cars serviced is being paid to the icon players in PSL. Doesnt weigh up nicely as these leagues are all about money
