'Don't give into pressure, give the pressure': Meera has advice for Afridi and the boys

The actress gave a shout-out to the Pakistani cricket team ahead of their first match of the ICC World Twenty20 tomorrow
15 Mar, 2016

You know cricket fever is a go when the celebs are taking time out to give Afridi and the boys a shout-out.

And Meera had special advice for the Pakistani cricket team, which plays its first match of the ICC World Twenty20 against Bangladesh tomorrow.

The advice was "Don't give into pressure, give the pressure."

Speaking to the media at a press conference at her residence in Lahore, Meera gave the following message to the Pakistani cricket team:

"Please play very well. You're in India representing Pakistan and you have to return as winners. Don't give into the pressure, give the pressure. I hope you play well."

She went on to add that artists or sportsmen shouldn't feel pressurised. "You just can't perform in those conditions," she said. "We have a team of confident performers; it's one of the best in the world. I'm sure they'll play superbly."

She added that her whole family is rooting for the team:

"The Pakistani team has all my support. My whole family is praying that the team wins the match tomorrow."

When asked about Afridi's recent statement about receiving more appreciation in India, Meera said, "Maybe he wants more appreciation? But he should have been more balanced [in his statement.] Anyway, it's okay."

And of course, what's a shout-out without a personal plug-in?

"I invite the whole team to watch [my next film] Hotal upon their return to Pakistan and ask them to support Pakistani cinema."

Meera did the same, gave pressure to the producers and directors of Bollywood, and all her films gave in, flops.

If you give pressure your opponent would do the same, and the world would become a pressure cooker. Remember to eat something cooked in a pressure cooker you need to be out of it not inside.

You can expect all sorts of performances from Pakistani players now, on and off the pitch. They needed an adviser of this caliber.

A sound advice from some one who the media takes little less seriously. PCB high-ups must teach players how to deflect pressure, maintain composure, hold nerves, collect themselves and strategize when faced with unexpected situations. Looks there is no psychological grooming of players. Will some psychology department of university come up with a curriculum and training material for such instructions of players. Please do it free of cost as PCB has no outlays for trainings.

what difference does it make if she is not fluent in English. Her claim to fame is not being an expert on Shakespeare but an entertainer. She is past her prime but is still more capable than the other stars to keep herself in the news

Meera did some brilliant movies in her time for example Khoye Ho Tum Kahan, Kilona, Harjai, Inteha, Commando and many other. She was very good in all of them but enough is enough. Pakistani cinema needs a change which is happening at present but we don’t need Meera or Nargis to be a part of it anymore. Instead of becoming a Clown of Pakistani film industry, Meera should take Reemas, Rubi Niazi’s, Sahiba’s, Sana’s, Saima’s and Neeli’s example i.e get married and leave gracefully.
