Celebrity endorsements for chai have hit an all-time high — with Fawad Khan brewing a cuppa for his begum and Zoe Viccaji promoting the health benefits of green tea it was only a matter of time before Hamza Ali Abbasi jumped on the teakettle — er, bandwagon.

Another trend that seems to be picking up is how brands will subtly or not so subtly reference their competition in their adverts, like that recent Nargis Fakhri- Faisal Qureshi episode.

So are we surprised that Hamza commented on all the trends above in this TVC? Not at all!

In the ad Hamza, disguised by a wig and beard (and looking pretty ridiculous!), appears next to a woman and asks her to choose the tastiest cup of tea in a blind taste-test that compares his brand against the brand Fawad Khan has been promoting.

Fawad's chai brand's got some friendly competition led by Hamza Ali Abbasi

She chooses Hamza's brand even though it's not what she usually buys. That's when Hamza rips off his disguise and says: "If I'd told you [who I was] earlier, you would've believed what I said about the chai only because it's me and not for the chai's flavour."

So cheeky, Hamza! In one sentence he manages to convey that star-powered ads have the power to shift public opinion simply because of the stature of the actor involved (in this case, Fawad Khan) — and he also references his own status as a popular social media activist.

We wonder, though, if Hamza truly believes that his fans sincerely buy into all his opinions. Hmm, we're not sure!

Gosh. Lipton feeling insecure. The Tapal Advert was far more classy and had a better impact. This is just revealing how insecure Lipton are feeling.

We were taught that this head to head marketing or rebutting your competitors in such manner is the worst possible option. This practice is never liked in other countries.

I thought the same Fawad-Hamza competition when I saw Lipton's ad. But lets face it Fawad's ad was far better & the chaie even tastes better compared to lipton

Lipton should understand they can not beat Tapal by advertisement but by giving good tea taste to their customers. Till now they have totally failed in that department.

This frankly is no where near Faisal Q's Ufone. Hamza is quite lame most of the time.

Is Lipton no longer the Market leader? Why are they saying just try our tea once, you will never regret it?? Has Tapal really given them such a run for their money?

Focus on quality of products instead of hitting cheap jabs at each other.

I don't like the very idea. At least I don't use any project just because good or bad ad. i guess we use products because of good Quality.Tapal has far better quality then Lipton

Get a grip guys! If this is exactly what HAA is trying to portray he shouldnt be in this add only....actors are taken in ads to shift the buying behavior of the consumers else there is no need for them to be in the ads. the tea and other details would do the trick. and no matter what he or the media says Fawad Khan will remain influential not just here but internationalyy or atleast across the border!

"Another trend that seems to be picking up is how brands will subtly or not so subtly reference their competition in their adverts," ...In Pakistan, yes it is pretty recent looks like. has been going on for a long time in foreign ads.

I am longing since long to get a cup of tea made of real tea leaves of yesterdays. Lipton Yellow Label of yester-years was a tea of connoisseurs that was only available on ration to a few. Now every tea is danedar and tea leaves are part of lost history. Even I tried recently in the UK, but failed to get a single sample of genuine tea leaves.

Fawad's Ad is better, no doubt here. Well in tea we can say there is a competition but in personalities there is no competition between both the stars, Hamza is not even near Fawad, not in talent, not in persona.
