Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt will be released from jail on February 27, reported Times of India.

The 56-year-old actor will be walking free a few days ahead of his official date of release – a reprieve granted for good behaviour, sources say.

Dutt has been serving a five-year sentence for his involvement in the 1993 Mumbai blasts that killed 257 people and injured hundreds.

According to Indian Express, Dutt was jailed in 1996 and spent 18 months behind bars before walking out on bail. While he was cleared of conspiracy charges in 2007, he was found guilty of illegal possession of an AK-56 rifle and a pistol. In 2013, the Supreme Court sentenced him to five years in prison for the crime.

Dutt has been completing the remaining prison term of 42 months at Yerwada Jail. His official jail term ends in November 2016, according to Times of India. However, Dutt is being given remission as per the jail manual after clearance from the Home department, a senior official said.

Sanjay Dutt did not kill any person, yet he served 5 years in jail for just for keeping arms.

@Sunil : Procuring arms from underworld and keeping them during the prohibition would have got him 15 years. He got away very lightly. Bal Thackerey helped out.

There are millions who carry arms in Indian cities and security people are afraid to even ask them weather they have license.

I am happy for Sanjay that he is coming out of jail. He was punished for keeping arms but those who were involved in the Gujrat riots which resulted in the deaths of many people were let go.

He procured arms from Abu Salem, (who was a Dawood aide and responsible for arms consignment for Mumbai 1993 attacks). He allowed his house to be used to storing the arms at his house, some of which were to be used for the the Mumbai 1993 attacks and anticipated riots. He was lucky to have gotton released from TADA, else would have been in jail with Memon family. How much more luck can you wish him just for being Munnabhai? What about the 157+ people who were killed in the Mumbai blasts?

Sanjay Dutt is great actor. I think at top in his style of acting , no one can match him ... I personally think it is little harsh but at the same time every one is equal and everyone should obey law ...
