Weekend grub: Karachi's famous O's answers your authentic New York pizza prayers

Weekend grub: Karachi's famous O's answers your authentic New York pizza prayers

The delivery-only venture uses all imported premium ingredients to give their pies that original flavour kick

A New York style pizza is traditionally a hand-tossed pie consisting in its basic form of a light layer of tomato sauce and genuine mozzarella cheese. The large, wide slices are often eaten as a fast food while folded in half because of their unique flexibility.

And that's one of the first things I noticed about Famous O's Pizza -- I could fold the slice like the ones I would eat bought from street vendors in the Big Apple without struggling like I did with all the other pizza places in the city.

Where to go:

Well, nowhere actually. Famous O's is a delivery-only new eatery that has taken Karachi foodies by storm.

Their delivery is prompt and efficient and in my experience, the food always arrives piping hot so you can enjoy a slice (or four) in the comfort of your own home.

What to order:

The menu is simple; it's a thin crust pie and the base is either plain cheese or their special Margherita option and then you have a wide array of topping that you can add on. We opted for a half Margherita and half plain cheese with pepperoni, mushrooms, basil and onions.

I like some meat on my pizza but the Margherita had me floored! The cheese had such a distinct taste just on it's own and the marinara sauce was just right, not too overpowering.

That being said, their toppings on the other half tasted fresh and the pepperoni was cooked to perfection! They have one standard size which is a 16 inch so order accordingly.

When to go:

Sadly, your lunch cravings will have to wait. The joint starts delivery at 7 pm in the evening and shuts down at midnight so you have a small window to get your order in.

Damage on the pocket:

Definitely pricier than other pizza delivery options, you're obviously paying for a premium product that is unparalleled to anything else you get in town. On average, you'll end up paying anywhere from Rs 1200-2000 for a single pizza which is enough for two really hungry people or three moderately hungry individuals. Steep, I know!

Pro tip: If you're opting for the Margherita base then skip out on toppings completely. If you're big on toppings then it's better to go with plain cheese that doesn't overpower the protein and other condiments.

If they are saving expenses on sit-in eatery and huge overheads associated with that, a good part of the resulting savings should have been transferred to the home-delivery customers.

Pepperoni Pepperoni, also known as pepperoni sausage, is an American variety of salami, usually made from cured pork and beef mixed together. Pepperoni is characteristically soft, slightly smoky, and bright red in color.

In North America fast food (pizza, burgers) is popular because it is less expensive than having a dinner in a restaurant, but in Pakistan it is other way round. I do not understand why people go for fast food.
