Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani face-off: who's the champ, according to Twitter?

Has Ranveer and Deepika's sizzling honeymoon phase chemistry trumped SRK and Kajol's classic pairing?
Updated 21 Dec, 2015

The much-talked about clash at the box office, Dilwale vs Bajirao Mastani has finally happened and if we're talking money, Dilwale has emerged the hero, collecting INR 21 crore on the first day alone. Rohit Shetty, paired with Bollywood's all-time favourite couple, SRK and Kajol and an otherwise stellar cast was a off to a flying start.

Although film critics were less than impressed, the movie's momentum showed no signs of slowing down on social media.

There was no shortage of positive feedback.

However, not everyone was impressed.

In contrast, Bajirao Mastani was off to a slow start, making INR 12 crore on opening day.

However, glowing reviews and word of mouth really revved up the epic period saga's ticket sales.

The love for the Sanjay Leela Bhansali flick just kept pouring in.

While Dilwale seems to be raking in the big bucks, Bajirao has clearly gained critical acclaim.

And much like the tortoise in the race, it would appear that the underdog has surfaced as the winner in the end.

a person at the age of 50 romance with a woman and shows a college life romance so stupid. Shah rukh should stop this type of movies because his time is now over related to a lover of young age.

Dilwale is a waste of time and money. Cut and paste of scenes from English movies. Shah Rukh Khan is a spent force and overacts.

Both movies have flopped miserably. The theatres are empty. The film fraternity for obvious reasons is saying money recovered. Please check early 2016 both movies will be on TV. No need to see in theater now. The others are already clamping down on the statements that the prime actors have made or planning to make.

Just saw how Michael Caine switched to "Dad" roles when he got past 60. Shah Rukh needs to realize he needs to do the same (switch roles). Money and adulation may misguide Shah Rukh, but time and tide wait for no man.

I just watched Bajirao. This is the first movie ever of Ranveer Singh I watched.Initially I didn't like him but then as it took momentum,he did very well.Deepika was absolutely perfect.Though I like Deepika better, Priyanka acted very maturely and her role perfectly. She was so aristocratic but with a genuine feminine grace. Instead of a 50 year old man's artificial acting, why not watch the old time settings ?

Growing up in the 90s we had Shah Rukh like Amitabh in 80s. Now after 25 years he is indeed boring.... Same romance same European locations... This is not how the kids romance these days uncle! SRK uncle with 3 kids and Kajol aunty with 2 kids... Grow up uncle and aunty.

Yesterday it was possible to get tickets for Dilwale but impossible to do for Bajirao Mastani. Often, trade figures quoted initially turn out to be fake but the reality hits when you want to buy tickets.

Just saw the effect of word of mouth here in town close to Chicago. Went to Dilwale on Thursday night . Much more crowd for it than BR-Mas . Went to the same theatre for BR-Mas on Fri and scene was different. I like BR-Mas more. Dilwale was a stolen script from Hum but I think SRK was not as convincing as AB.

Dilwale with big names, lot of marketing did well initially. But a crap movie to be honest. People dint have much expectations from Bajirao Mastani - so it had a slow start, but an awesome movie. Wanted to watch something different and this movie came as a pleasant surprise. Don't know why it is banned in Pakistan. Will be watching it again.

I am surprised at the comparison itself. BM is a temple of cinematic excellence, of great stories and characters, of intellect, poetry and timelessness. You go and watch whatever you want to watch as per your taste, but please don't compare. How can there be any comparison between a temple and a gutter?

Let's hope actors of the younger generation continue to take roles that challenge them to give their best regardless of box office numbers, instead of the embarrassingly idiotic tripe encouraged by the cult worship of fans. Dilwale brings Bollywood to new lows, and that's saying something given Bollywood standards.

i just checked the advance bookings for 22nd December ie for today in cities like Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi. Every where the trend is advance bookings are slightly more for Bajirao Mastani. Which means the initial trend of people flocking to SRK's movie and that happened the first week end, has reversed. More people are getting interested in Bajirao mastani

SRK trying films that have more than one hero. Happy new year and now Dilwale. Looks he is loosing confidence now about his ability to carry the films entirely on his shoulders. But he is arrogant in reducing the second hero to mere extra actor like it used to happen with second hero in Amitabh's movies. Abhishek did the worst role of his life in SRK's Happy New Year. And people are asking what Varun Dhawan is doing in Dilwale.

We, a large group of hostel friends always download movies from net and watch them on laptops. We went to theaters twice on 2 weekends to watch Bajirao Mastani. No one has even bothered to download Dilwale. That says it all. BM not only is way ahead of cheap Dilwale, but also undoubtedly is the best Bollywood movie of 2015. Epic is the word to describe it.
