Fawad overturns stereotypical gender roles by making his overworked wife a steaming cup of tea, and we love it
10 Dec, 2015

We know the tea trolley-pushing woman is an outdated stock character, but it took Pakistani hearththrob Fawad Khan to finally drive the point home.

In his latest commercial for Tapal Danedar tea, Fawad overturns stereotypical gender roles by making, and then serving, his overworked wife a steaming cup of tea.

In the commercial, wifey gets home tired after a long day spent either at work or grocery shopping — that part's unclear. But whatever the case, Fawad swoops in to revive her with tea, saying "You do so much for me. My heart wanted to say, lets you and I have a cup of chai."

Swoooon.

It's a small instance of role reversal, and the TVC doesn't push it – Fawad, the husband, ultimately admits that he can't cook, but offers to take her out for dinner to save her an evening of cooking.

Husbands of the world, take note! If Fawad Khan can do it, you can aspire to some tea-making too!

I am a working woman and my husband is doing much more than Fawad Khan, though he may not be showering caring words and feeling, which every woman wishes, but he is a great great support and does take work like making tea, cooking and other house chores 50% with minus plus depending on his and my office schedules. with education this has to come and it should. This will relieve men of economic providers' burden and women, of their burden to manage home single handedly.

@farhana fully agreed. This is the time and age of mutually sharing all responsibilities at home between men and women in societies like Pakistan. Women, even if they are not doing an office job, are fully busy from morning to evening.

I am very impressed with quality advertisements in my PAKISTAN. I see commercials in US - which 90% of the time are sense less. Advertisers in US need to learn from Pakistani talent.

I am drinking Tapal Danedar in Canada for more then 10 years and my wife serves me with lots of love and when my friends visit me I make Tapal tea personally with Everyday Milk from Pakistan and present to my guest proudly a real PAKISTAN test. Yes I am very closely related to Tapal owners but truth has to be told.

Finally someone thought to make gender sensitive ad. Kudos to Tapal. Why should men not cook and make tea and shoulder their domestic responsibilities. Am so happy that someone in the mainstream media has attempted to show it.

So many Pakistani women/wives, the so called "begamat" who don't work full time and have atleast one or may be more servants at home doing most of the hard work, and they spend a good part of a day on phone chatting, surfing TV Dramas/movies, facebook, youtube etc also expect or dream that their husbands to act like this when they come home after 8-10 hours of work day. Isn't that ridiclous, shouldn't it be the opposite, what do you think please vote?

well.... i am flabbergasted after watching such sort of astounding advertisement, fawad over here tries to confess that how much her wife is adorable to him ,and to actually stay true to her he himself served warm cup of tea,in pakiestan, normally husbands do nothing but pass condescending comments but fawad sets an example that women have heart too and they've also got feelings if you mistreat them then it would also be disdainful to them woman is love and should be treated with love...

Beautifully created Ad. The good looking actors are wonderful, but the concept of this ad is vital for Pakistan to drift away from stereotypical gender roles! Great concept for a great advertisement for an even better product! Well done!
