Cinema is set to open its doors on Eid ul Azha
Updated 20 Sep, 2015

Murree residents and visiting tourists will soon have more than just scenic beauty to take in on quiet evenings; a cinema is opening its doors at the hill station for the first time in 20 years.

Expected to open on Eid ul Azha, the cinema is ninth in a chain of cinema houses run by Cinepax, which is currently present in five cities across Pakistan, including Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Gujranwala.

"Murree's last cinema closed down two decades ago," revealed Mohsin Yaseen, Cinepax General Manager. "The idea was for us to be present in the Murree market, and give entertainment to the people. Lots of people go to Murree to see the natural scenery, but they don't have much to do in the evenings. That's where our cinema will come in."

The cinema will be a single-screen, 300-seater cinema that is equipped with Dolby 7.1 surround sound system and an advanced digital projection system.

"The location we found in Murree could only accommodate a single-screen cinema, which is why we're not building a multiplex there," shared the GM.

The Punjab government had also announced the construction of a 3D cinema in the auditorium of the Murree Arts Council earlier this year, but it's unclear when that plan will materialise.

Cinepax will next expand to Islamabad's Safa Mall, Hyderbad's Ottoman Road, Gujrat, Sialokot and Multan in the coming year.

That's really very good news. I still remember that in late 70 and 80's era. there were almost three cinemas entertaining tourists. They were often packed despite Pakistani movies were screened. Already PC Bhurban has cinema for elite class but common viewer was missing this facility in central Murree. I think there is dire need to have stage theatre as well as it is quite popular now a day.

@billo Why pay for any films people like you illegally download all films hence robbing & commiting a crime robbing revenue from all tthe people who work hard to provide you the film.
