Hollywood’s Hugh Jackman is back to revive his role as Wolverine five years after his last film as the clawed mutant. Ryan Reynolds, who plays Wade Wilson also known as Deadpool, announced that the The Greatest Showman actor is reprising his role for Deadpool 3.

Jackman first played Wolverine in 2000’s X-Men that turned him into a global star. But after 17 years and nine films, including several cameos, the actor retired as the superhero after his character was killed off in 2017’s Logan.

Reynolds took to Twitter on Wednesday and quipped how hard it was keeping his mouth “sewn shut” about this news.

The third Deadpool film marks a full circle moment for Reynolds’ character as well as Jackman’s Wolverine. The Red Notice star first played Deadpool in 2009 X-Men Origins: Wolverine, at the end of which saw Reynolds’ anti-hero with his mouth sewn shut.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the first Deadpool film saw a redemption arc for Reynolds character and it instantly became successful with earning as big as $782 million globally that helped the actor become one of the biggest stars in Hollywood.

Shawn Levy, known for Night at the Museum, is directing the third instalment of Deadpool with Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick as writers that penned the previous two films.

The upcoming film marks the first ever Deadpool film made by Marvel Studios as the previous ones were made by 20th Century Fox. Deadpool 3 will be releasing on September 6, 2024.
