Here's how Pakistani Twitter reacted when India's space mission went missing

Minister for Science and Technology, Fawad Chaudhry took a childish jibe at the development.

India's space programme suffered a setback on Saturday after it lost contact with an unmanned spacecraft moments before it was due to make a historic soft landing on the Moon.

India had hoped to become just the fourth country after the United States, Russia and regional rival China to make a successful Moon landing, and the first on the lunar South Pole.

But in the early hours of Saturday India time, as Modi looked on and millions watched with bated breath nationwide, Vikram, the lander named after the father of India's space programme, went silent just 2.1 kilometres above the lunar surface.

Pakistan's Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry took a jibe at the failed mission:

PTI Senator, Faisal Javed and DG ISPR Asif Ghafoor also weighed in:

However, it's ironic that we are celebrating when we aren't experts in the field either:

People on Twitter were quick to point out that this is not something we should be mocking:

Let's focus on the issues we're dealing with in our backyard rather than ridiculing scientific advancements:

95% of Chandrayan 2 mission is successful as the Orbiter is healthy and functioning well and sent many HD scans of the Moon already. It's only rest of the 5% which is missed and that too by just 2 Kms.

Sad that our officials are making fun of this. The fact is that they actually tried and suffered a setback. We need to have some class by either refraining from commenting or better yet by applauding their efforts in this field.

Before our politicians ridicule India on the missions, they need to look inwards and at least try to fix Pakistan first. Just returned from one month excursion and I have been more than frustrated to the see how bad the status of infrastructure is, potholes everywhere, roads broken, patches of dirt, and you do not need to go far from Islamabad to see it. Broken roads and massive traffic mismanagement, then there is load shedding, don't get me start on that & the inflation, I mean wow !!! The only thing good, the new airport, staff has been very nice and accommodating, which came to me as a surprise !!!

@kabeelakhan Incorrect. Orbitor carries 95% of project, which is running & will run for 5 years. The lander lost communication 2km before landing due to jerks. They are trying to revive communication for 14 days (1 lunar day). This is India’s 2nd moon mission. The maiden 1st mission Chandrayaan went to moon in 2008 and discovered water on moon.
