One has to admire Aamir Khan for taking the sole blame for the failure of his film Thugs of Hindostan at the box office.

At a recent media interaction, the 53-year-old star said, "I take full responsibility for Thugs of Hindostan not working with the audience."

Aamir added, "I think we went wrong, but I would like to take full responsibility for that. You can be sure that we tried our level best, we left no stone unturned in our efforts but we went wrong somewhere. There are some people who liked the film and we would like to thank them, and we are happy they liked it but they are in the minority, majority of the people did not like our film and we realise that. Most definitely we've gone wrong somewhere, and I take full responsibility for it."

The actor then apologised to his fans for failing to deliver.

"The audience which came with high expectations to watch my film, I would like to apologise to them too that I was not able to deliver and provide the entertainment, even though we tried our best, but they didn't enjoy it. I feel very bad that we were not able to entertain them."

Thugs of Hindostan starring Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan in lead roles failed to impress audiences and tanked at the box office. Since its release it has raked in a mere INR 150 crore.

Aamir should not be ashamed for the movie not being well-received by the audience, but by the blatant plagiarism of Pirates of the Caribbean. Thugs of Hindostan were an important part of the Hindustani history which AK and company completely overlooked.

People are getting tired of watching veteran actor Amitabh Bacchan, no matter how good an actor he is. Bring in new faces.

Dear & Respectable Amir bhi, We are living in times when the truth is false and the false is truth. I have watched all of your movies, and found TOH to be more enterprising, inventive, and intriguing than any other movie released in India during the last couple of years. And I watched TOH 2 times in cenima, because I liked the movie so much. The problem is with the people who had unrealistic hopes from the movie, and of course, one should ignore the slight misses and adjustments to create the pace of the movie. This is a great production, and reflects on your uncompromising talent; Bravo.

Height of egoistical arrogance on the part of Amir Khan to take full blame for the movie not working well when everybody messed up from director to producer to actors to script writers to costume designers to choreographers and all the rest. Does he wish everybody to think that he alone was doing all the above things that together resulted in a rotten rehash of an equally rotten movie. He should just take the blame for his own poor overacting and self aggrandizement that is completely off-putting and leave everyone else associated with the movie to take their share of the blame including a tired old man called Amitabh Bachchan!

Aamir Khan, you are a great actor and over and above that you are a great person. A failure is an orphan but you became its parent and I like that so much. To be so gracious and decent is not everyone's cup of tea!

@Jackal The director who is also the script writer is to blame, not AK.

It is almost never the actor who should get the blame for a movie's failure. It is the script writer, the director and then the actors and rest of the team. This movie is from the production house that makes me too movies. But due to presence of Amir and Amitabh the expectations were of a class movie. Which this production house and directors do not make. Hence there was a gap in expectations and what was delivered.

How can you apologize for something you are not sure about? Identifying the mistake is the first step before you can learn or rectify it.

The mistake was in attempting to copy pirates, AK Ur a good actor but no one can copy Jack sparrow. Should have stuck to historical facts and revolved the story around those. Big B Ur nearing sell by date. Time to get get the rocking chair, pipe and slippers out.

Ameer Khan is a great actor, director and producer .... but even he cannot succeed all the time. Sometimes his vision does not click with the audience.... Hopefully his next movie(s) will be even better. His success in Dangal, Superstar and Tarey jameen par. Etc., will never be forgotten. He is already an unmatched king in the history of Bollywood !!!!!

@Altaf Noor Ali Well said Altaf. They tried their best with no control on the viewers. Great men accept disappointments and Aamir is one of them.
